Installed Alpine ida-X100

Yesterday I received Alpine ida-X100 bought over eBay. The wait was around 8 days (I had booked on 8th July). The parcel was sent on 9th and reached India on 10th, then our postal deptt taking sweet time to deliver. At least they didnt lose it.

Neatly packed all accessories - Keys, pouch for HU-mouth, wiring harness, USB extn cable, Ipod-USB cable and KC422i (full speed ipod cable - ordered separatley), chinese manual and warranty card.

The appearance is quite good (will post pics tomorrow - left camera at home). Thought lets give it a trial run. The set up was far below basic

Power supply - 12V3A adapter from my Cambridge 2.1 pc speakers
Speakers - Full range Cambridge speakers from 2.1 set up (woofer not used)
Ipod - 30 GB video

After wiring I powered up the unit and a nice blue display appeared. I connected ipod via KC422i and ipod was immediately recognised and was sourced as 'iPod 2'. Selected a song to play. The sound was awesome on those tiny speakers, adequate separation (I am no audiophile juat a music lover) and guess what system could create bass on those tiny 2 inch speakers.

Then I realised the album art is not showing. I searched the options, reset the unit etc but no luck, thought the unit is a fake, but on an after-thought, i connected the ipod through USB. There it was my album art which I had very painfully applied to all my mp3 just for the sake of this unit .

I kept on listening to my trial set up for around an hour till my wife fried me for some households.

The Unit is very basic in operations.

Audio - Bass, Treble, Balance, Fader, Sub Level
Display - Clear easy to read with dimmer

- Ipod operation is seamless but slow, takes around 2-3 seconds to change songs. the menu is fast though
- album art take around 2 seconds to display
- clock with calender
- three way rotary control
* turn for volume
* press+turn to change album/artist
* center button enter for selection

couldnt test the tuner section as i had no antennae
didnt test the USB section

Now i am looking for an audio processor to complement the unit (PXA-H100)

I intend to put in my car this sunday

Did you buy it from EBAY US ? Great that you received it.

Please help us with the actual price and shipping paid on it, separately.

Also did you pay anything extra for the excise/customs etc ?

Yes it wa bought from Ebay US. The price was GBP 155 + 20 for shipping i.e. around Rs.15000. The package was been sent from Shanghai via EMS/Speedpost.

No there were no custom charges, I had requested the seller to mark the item for low value.

A few months back I had ordered an alpine 9886(sold it in market place) and it also came duty free.

dumbo me, i read the post twice ,took it as PXA-H100 searched the complete alpine site for the details but i could not find a rotatory commandar, blue lit, and other controls on a PXA-H100(which is a sound processor)
then again read the post and READ that it was a IDA-X100 and what a nice looking system it is!!
Nice buy matecheers:

Probably this is done by International sellers to attract buyers from various regions (please correct me if I am wrong)

Waah, looks really good. Congratulations, Mishra-ji.

The Alpine logo on the iPod screen - did you have to install anything on the iPod?

Congrats, mishraak! That's a really good looking HU. Must sound great too!

@DerAlte, the logo gets fed to the iPod in some way from the HU. It gets displayed in my 4th Gen iPod 20GB too. I've seen the Alpine logo in all iPods connected to Alpine HUs via the iPod interface. Didn't know that the logo would appear in the USB mode, though.

Figured it out: Picture Block Upload command in AiR mode in Apple Accessory Protocol. 9887 talks AAP with iPod via KCA422i (Serial Tx/Rx, 19200 baud, ASCII based command-response protocol).

Oh! So what kind of music should one listen to, to be worthy of the privilege of owning an Alpine, @vebmetal?

Congrats Buddy on your Alpine setup but could not help laughing about vebmetal's quote . On a lighter note, enjoy the product and have a blast.
