Image Dynamics from USA - advisable??

Hi gurus.. check out the link please.

Image Dynamics New IDQ12v2D2 12" IDQ Subwoofer 700 watt - eBay (item 110292551976 end time Sep-30-08 19:08:43 PDT)

Getting it for a friend.. NOT shipping directly, but through someone who's travelling. Wotsay?

I know that the warranty would be void, but still curious to know if that would be worth it? PRETTY CHEAP.. If he doesn't like, may be he can gift to someone.

Suggestions please!!

ID from US is very very cheap when compared to indian prices. But then, one looses all benefits of buying it here.

If you don't care much about warranty and after sales etc.. Then, just get it.

If I was in your place now, I would buy from Gunman if I can afford it.

Quick clarification - your warranty is not void. It's just not redeemable here. If you were to take it back to the States in case of a problem, they would honour it there.

For that price, its worth taking the risk. I myself got a alpine amp from U.S at a good price, its been more than a year now and nothing has happened to it till date, and also my alpine woofer from Singapore has not given any problems till date. But with electronic items, you can never say, when something might go wrong.

For ID subs in the US you could also check here.

WoofersEtc.com - The Online Car Audio Super Store, The largest selection at the lowest prices! Brands

I'm using a MBQ Premium amp bought from the US, since June - no issues.

Check it out. Dont know what "SQ" means. If your friend has heard it and likes it, why not? Its not an "electronic" item. If the product is indeed new and perfect, with reasonable use, there should not be any problem.

And dont try giving it any more than the rated power. Or even hooking it up to an amp with more power than rated. That is surely going to void the warranty.

Panky, has you friend already heard an iDQv2 here? If not please ensure he does. He too may not like it, as you didn't. The iDQ isn't for everyone you know.

1. I dont think so, he's going by the word-of-mouth only!

2. I already asked him to do that, how can I ensure.. its his choice.. his money.

3. I advised him the same.. he doesn't listen to me.. thats why I opened a thread here asking if it would be worthwhile.

4. How True..

I am behind a firewall therefore not able to see the price. Is it US$150 for the sub? If yes, then it is indeed a steal.

Panky, any idea, how much would the components cost? If the price difference is huge then i will get them too from the US.

Btw, we talk about voiding the warranty. I have been using numerous electronic products all my life and i never ever used the warranty benefit for any of the product.

If its a big ticket item ( Car, very expensive electronic product) we may certainly use the warranty if it ever goes kaput.

But,for small ticket items ( below 10K or so) how many of us actually take the pain of running around claiming a warranty, say 2-3 years down the line if that product breaks down? I wouldn't go through that painful knocking-the-door process?

Just curious how may would do that?
