ICEing my Endeavour

Hey guys

I'm planning to upgrade the sound system in my '08 Ford Endeavour and I've already got the stereo fascia adapter and a Kenwood 2DIN touchscreen DVD. I wanna add a pair of 3 or 4way speakers and sub/subs. I need you guys' advice on many things.

Is it possible to replace the stock speakers with oval speakers?(Are the stock speakers oval shaped?)

I'm thinkin of gettin JBL dual enclosed woofers(GT5-2402BR).
Are there any other alternatives that I can get in Kerala?
(I mean enclosed subs that doesnt take up too much space)
OR
Is a single sub enclosure enough for endeavour?(like GT5-1204BR)

Which amp would be good for a setup with a GT5-2402BR(or similar alternative) and a pair of speakers? What specs? Which brand? Model name. Should I get 2 separate amps for the speakers and sub?
What other things should I get? (Crossovers, wiring kit etc etc)
Right now I'm in Qatar so I wanna know if I can buy anything from here.
(I wont be buyin the sub from here cuz its heavy and I cant carry it in my luggage.)

Are there any GOOD ice installers in Thrissur? (I can drive to Kochi/EKM and get it done but TSR would be more convenient)

And last but not least I need to know the approximate prices of everything.

Please advice me.
Many Thanks in advance

Most Ford vehicles in India have 5x7 speaker provisions, but you need to double check. Of the brands, JBL (GTO8607c components), Blaupunkt (GTx572), Infinity (6820cs components), Polk, Boston and a couple of others have 5x7 components / coaxials available. Better go to Kochi - doubt if you will get any of these in Thrissur.

Use components in front, and 2-way coaxials in the rear (3-4 way coaxes are never VFM). Good choice for sub, but it is likely to take away most of your budget, including a mono suitable for driving it.

Thank you Der Alte

Hey buddy
Thank you very much for helping me.
I think I've made up my mind on the sub. Do you know how much GT5-2402BR costs? How much would a good mono amp cost in India?
How about using a 3way amp for both the speakers and sub? Can a 3way amp handle the load?

Do I need an amp for the speakers? If yes, what type, how much?
Do I need a crossover for this setup? Whats the price of a good crossover in India?

Thanks again & Best regards

No idea about the price of GT5-2402BR, but it's younger brother the GT5-1204BR (single sub) is about 10K. A mono would cost upwards of 13K.

Can't make out what you mean by a "3-way amp", but if you mean multi-channel amp, yes, you could get:
- a 4-channel amp like the JBL 1000 to drive the front components and the sub, and drive the rear speakers from the HU
- same as above + a 2 channel amp to drive the rear
- a lower power amp like the JBL GT5-A504 or Blaupunkt GTA 4 Mk 2 Special to drive the front and rears. and a mono like GT5-3501 to drive the sub
- (not commonly available) a 6 channel amp to drive the front, rears and sub

BUT, if you really want the GT5-2402BR, you just have to have a mono - a multi-channel amp bridged will not push it.

* If you want to put in a powerful sub, you *have* to amp the speakers - otherwise you will not be able to tune the system

* If you buy 5x7 components (or 6.5" components, which you can use with an MDF adapter), the cross-over comes along as a set - you need not buy it separately

Change in plans

Thanks buddy @ DerAlte.
I may change my plans. I looked at some subs and amps that are available here. I'm not as confused as I was earlier, thanks to your inputs.
I'm considering getting a 1000W+ sub and build the enclosure myself.
I'm thinkin of buyin the amp here as I feel there are more brands and models available here.
By 3way amp I meant multi channel, yes.
Thank you once again for helping me.

Regards

Help again!

Gurus please help me again.

I need help in choosing a good sub and a powerful amp to drive it.
I saw Kicker ZX1000.1 1000W(rms) mono amp here for QR.1400(approx Rs.18,700) How is this amp? Can I get it cheaper in India(South)?

What other 1000W mono amp(no pioneer, no sony) can I get for Rs.15k or a little more? Kenwood, RF, JL, MTX, jbl, infinity, Polk, anything.
Prices please, if you can help me.

And for the subs:
Whats the price of JBL GT5-2402BR?
Is GT5 1204BPD available?(Its not there on the JBL site)
Which one is better?

What other options(other brands/configurations) do I have within the price range of 20-24k?

I'll be flying back soon so if you guys help me make up my mind, I may not have to carry excess baggage.

Please help me guys.

And one more thing. How are kicker wiring kits? They are available here for almost Rs.7k. It had RCA wired n all. It looked good and heavy.

Update!

Dear Gurus
I went and bought the bought the Kicker ZX1000.1 (mono 1000W RMS).

Now I have a problem. The Kenwood DVD HU I bought has only 2 PRE OUT ie. FRONT and REAR/SUB.

Can I hook up a 4channel amp to the FRONT PRE OUT and use it to drive coax and component? Will the sound be good? AND MONO AMP TO DRIVE THE SUB THROUGH REAR PRE OUT? IS THIS CONFIG GOOD?
Someone told me to get a HU with 3 PRE OUTS.
Guys please help me. Somebody please advise this poor ICE illiterate!

ICE Ford Endeavour

Hi Guys..!

I drive a 2010 Ford Endeavour 2.5. I have upgraded my music system from stock but I am really struggling with getting the right EQ settings.

The following are the particulars :

1. Pioneer AVH-P4390DVD Head unit.
2. Pioneer DEQ-P7650 Processor.
3. Sony 4 channel AMP
4. Polk Audio Mono block.
5. Hertz 10inch sub.
6. Infinity audio front 2 way components.
7. Hertz audio rear 2 way components.
8. Pioneer TS-CX900 center speakers.

Please tell me how to set the Parametric EQ ( Low, Mid and High).

And also tell me what should be the speaker settings as well.

Thanks for the Help in advance..!

Re: ICE Ford Endeavour

Let the Parametric Equalizer be, i.e. let the settings be at 0. You have good equipment, so listen to it without any artificial influence. Listen to the system like that for a few weeks, and try to figure out if you are missing something. If possible, listen to the same in another car - ignore what you hear less in the other car, and see if something is definitely less in your system. For example, do the background music tend to drown the vocals, or do the drums sound less?

Based on what you discover, change on the Processor, not on the HU.

Re: ICE Ford Endeavour

You have a good system, what you need is a lil patience and step by step tuning of your system.

As mentioned correctly by Derate, you first need to listen to your system and the best possible way is instead of the whole system first listen to your
front comps alone..keeping everything else off. EQ should be point flat across all levels.

Then turn on the sub and check if both the fronts and sub gel with each other, if not work with the equalization on the amp itself by checking the gains and frequencies.

Once this is done, turn on your rear speakers and then again check whether their is a balance in your system or not.

Mostly the rear's are the culprits where they don't gel perfectly with the fronts and subs.

After you have achieved the balance then only move into equalization part from the processor/parametric/graphical.

The thing is I have trying to put in many combinations like this.

Listening and learning mechanism.

I tried put it on the pre set options (power, super bass, vocal etc.) - Absolute Rubbish.

Start with flat. Then push up the area you feel needs a boost.

Re: ICE Ford Endeavour

Ok from your above post the best suggestion is visit the place from where you got it installed and ask them to work the sound as per your liking.

As far as standard setting is concerned, there isnt any..mostly everything should be flat and the amp should be enough to power your system around.

Re: ICEing my Endeavour

thanks guys.

I have reset to factory setting and turned off most the options from the HU.

Done some combinations from the amp.

Its sounding much much better.

But after all this I cant justify the use of the processor.
