^^Sam gave the idea of using a cigarette lighter socket-to-USB cable that could power the USB HDD.
And that the drive could take two USB inputs. So, one for the HU to read and the other to supply power to the drive.

Would it be ok to use a External HDD until in solid state on the move.
It will surely damage the hard disk unless properly mounted or attached perfectly.

I have used it for months. No problems with it. And the roads i drive on have so many pot holes and what not that some people have removed alloys from their cars as their factories are located at that place.

One of the reason i cant get alloys

Imagine, cables running in & out of the dash and space to keep the HUGE(relatively) hard disk and the non user friendly usage, I prefer the Ipod. Thanks

This is the reason why I asked the same. The HU wont be able to power the drive.
BTW How much is the max limit for files and folders generally. Say in HU's like 6050 and 9886.

The Ipod has many other uses apart from the car.
