If you really want to experiment, start with getting a suitable 4" coax first - something that you like the mid-range of. Disconnect the tweet in the coax and implement your HPF plan with non-polar caps, the value of which you can figure out with on-line calculators. Feed it off the main speaker signal without disconnecting the existing XO. With the coax's own tweeter out of action, only the mid will use the signal. Hopefully with a bit of EQ at the HU, it will sound decent.

Once you are familiar with the controlling variables, you should be able to design and implement a 3-way XO.

Might be a bit off-topic but from where can we source good capacitors & inductors to build the XO ? Doesnt matter if it is Mylar of PP.

I have not came across a single place in Punjab where i can source good quality parts.

@greenhorn - I agree with you. The sensible thing does seem to implement a 6x9 type 3-way, utilizing the natural roll-offs of the concerned drivers to make the most of it. Or DIY-ing a 3-way crossover.
