The ultimate HU to buy in the price range of -10k is Kenwood 6539. Just bought one yesterday for my friend.

It has all the good features one would ever need in a decent setup. The best feature is the USB connection which runs iPods also without any additional adapter. Why don't other HU manufacturers do the same?

Pio does the same Zak. P6050, 5050, 7150 and newer lower range 2009 Pio models are also capable of direct iPod support. They even read iPod faster than Kenny.

Though their build is something not to talk about. I would anyday pick up old Pio 6850 over the new ones. Even 6850 has knob problems but then the higher models 8650 and 8850 are on the same grounds. The last HU from Pio which i think was good in terms of build was 7950.

It doesn't need any extra cable?
The USB cable which comes with the iPod will do the job?

Yes, I am asking about the Pioneers.

Sir yes sir. You can use the cable which comes with iPod. No need of those hefty iPod control units. Just plug the cable in the USB of HU and tada Direct iPod control. Access to playlists etc...

I need to decide on either Kenwood or Pioneer HU. Have shortlisted following

1. Pioneer 7150 or 5190.
2 Kenwood 6539 or 7539.

I donot know the prices but expect these to be around 10K. Guys will you please help me decide.

Thanks

7150 must be around 10K in grey market. kenny 6539 has been discontinued and 7539 is around 12-13K with bill and warranty.

I am confused between Pioneer 4190 and Kenwood 6043U (suggested by ms001). Feature wise I think both are same.

Kindly can someone show some light on this so that let me conclude with any one.

I am in similar dilemma for double din,not heard either of them,my earlier HU was a 10 year old alpine which was fantastic. Reading the specs of the CD unit and the amp , kenwood seems better

kenwood 5100u : pioneer 6050
CD S/N : 105db : 94db
amp : 22w <1%THD : 22w 5%THD

The tuner specs in pioneer seem better.
Dont know how it translates sound wise, can anyone describe a pioneer HU sound and kenwood HU sound.

A Pioneer HU sounds like a Pioneer HU, and not like a Kenwood HU, and vice versa.

Seriously, please don't ask others for the sound signature of an HU - it is quite impossible to describe it in a way you can relate to. IT is better that you audition different installations in cars (TBHP members are always willing to give a demo) to figure out for yourself how they sound. This will also give you an idea what you like and what you don't.
