Help with ICE - Getz CRDi

Hello Guru's

Its been about 8 months since i have iced my Getz, but somehow even now i feel there is a lot better that can be extracted from this setup or by adding / replacing one or two peripherals.

The Setup

Alpine HU - 9887
IPod Control Interface
Ipod 120 GB Classic
JBL - Mono-Block Amp
KENWOOD 4 Channel 840w Amp
Kicker 12" DVC - CVR woofer
Kicker DS Series Components in Front
Infinity Ovals - Rear box
Scosche RC Cables
Infinity 6# component speakers rear door
Pure MDF extremely heavy Box ( 40 kg w/o equipment) for Woofer on the slope facing the boot lid.

I dont know if the equipment used gels well with each other, i am not getting any satisfaction on the music front.

I have been searching for tips on setting up the HU but cant get that either.

Can anyone please help, recently i tried tweaking the unit and i guess i messed it up more.

Awaiting any reference or guidance to a good installer / tuner for my setup.

Did you compare the Kicker componets and Infinity Components? Put the one you prefer in the front.

Also given that you have front and rear components and a sub there is little need for the ovals in the rear.

Why do you have Ovals in a box ?
why such a heavy box for the sub ?

Hey Navin will try swapping the components,

@ Arpandiv - The installer suggested of having a box with 1" thick mdf on all sides thats why the weight.

Changes Made

Guys,

Tried some tweaking myself over the weekend and the difference is phenomenal. Now it feels good.

Changes made are

1. Removed the connections for the Ovals.
2. Reset the Alpine 9887 HU to factory defaults
3. Decreased the gain on the 4 Channel Kenwood Amp from 70% to 40%
4. Decreased the gain on the JBL Mono amp to 30%
5. Once done then i used the factory Eq settings on the HU.

But i still want to get rid of the huge box in the rear and replace with a decent size enclosure, can anyone suggest correct dimesions for a Sub- Box.

ICE for Getz

Hello Gurus,

I've been here before and did not get a favourable response. I hope this time i may.

My Original setup

Alpine 9887 HU
Kenwood 8401 4- CHannel Amp
JBL GTO Mono Bloc Amp
Kicker - DVC - CVR 12" Sub, Local Enclosure
Kicker DS Series Components - Front door
Infinity 2 way 6" Speakers - Rear door
Infinity Reference series Coax in Rear Sub Enclosure

Changes made with guidance from Team-Bhp

Removed rear enclosure and reference series Coax and installed a single Sub enclosure.

Sound quality was a definite improvement over the initial set-up.

However the sound quality was not satisfying, i always felt as if something is missing and the sound was a bit coarse/rough.

My friend then asked me to try out the BA S60 6 1/2" components, i have installed the same in the front and shifted the kickers at the rear, the sound is a huge multi fold improvement. However i still feel there is something lacking in the sound, is it the 4 channel kenwood amp or ?

I am also looking at someone who has and can share the imprint kit for the 9887, i also willing to approach any tuner in Mumbai who could help me get the 9887 imprinted and set things right.

PS - I am thinking of installing 2 Video screens on the neck rests using an Alpine in Dash DVD changer, please let me know any ideas or suggestions for the same

Approach Bass & Trouble.
The amp though liked by many is not too good.
You have many more options.

Audition some more amps / components and decide for yourself.

I was talking about the kenwood since you mentioned you liked an upgrade to BA but not too much.

You can try Infinity 475a ,DLS , Focal and many more.

Also get rid of rear coaxs in the enclosure. They might be overpowering your fronts and thus you might not be liking the soundstage.

Hello Guru's

Its me again, have upgraded my ice further. This time the Kenwood 4 channel amp has made way for the Focal Solid 4.

The SQ is way superior to the Kenwood, also there were evident frequency losses when played hard which seem to have disappeared after replacing it with the Focal.

I need some help in analysing if my setup is now complete or if it needs further tweaking. I also think that i still can derive a lot out of my Alpine Hu -9887r. Can someone help me with the same.

the amp is bound to sound better that Kenwood 845, 8401 or 8405 as it costs twice the amount of kenwood. If it doesn't then its a waste of $400.

Sorry Guys was out of town and could logon, THanks for the response, the Focal Solid 4 is simply fantastic, however now i feel i need something much better in the front than my Boston S60's. I am planning to Audition the DLS 3 way components and the Focal Polyglass components, Do you guys have any other suggestion as well as any experience on the above mentioned ?
