Got Polks installed in my new Civic and they sound simply awesome. Bass response is really nice, although I do have a JBL big boy in the boot :).

Vikram, which model of polks?

May be he should have specified how big his boy is... like 15"... so that its not mistaken for "the" 6+ feet boylol:

Also, you may already know this, but be prepared to dampen your doors well.

Yeah, definitely. This is for my baleno, for which maruti used to advertise 13 noise reduction techniques and it included damping at various locations. My impression is that their claims hold some water because it offers a very good isolation from external noise once windows are rolled up (which is always the case with me). How does that compare against proper damping with dynamat or the likes? I am sure you (and many others here) would have experienced several baleno installs. Also, are only metal sheets required to be damped or plastic door pads as well?

By the way, while finding out what polk means by "klippel optimized", I came to know that it is a German company providing highly sophisticated diagnostic & quality control systems to speaker manufacturers. Interested people may want to visit their website- Klippel GmbH - Home Page and watch demo movies illustrating amazing capability of their systems!

Interestingly, their "selected" customer list (Klippel GmbH - Selected Customers) contains many Chinese companies with intuitive names like "American Ally" & "Sound Sources" (probably OEMs) in addition to highly respected names in speaker industry like Focal, Seas, Klipsch, JL audio, B&W and so many more. Guess who is listed right next to B&W? ..."Dainty"! Funny... I mean the former is known to make probably the world's best speakers and the later is a cheapo stocked by auto(-rickshaw!) specialists on SP road:D. I must agree though that I was impressed by a Dainty sub which sounded strikingly different(better) than other boomers in such a shop.

1. damp anything that resonates or rattles.

2. the chinese audio companies have been making some very serious and good noises over the past 3 years or so. So that they use kippel's services does not surprise me. Kippel is not a closely guarded secret. for example more MLSSA (pronounced Melissa) licences have been sold in China that anywhere else in the past few years.

Another country that is making serious noises has been Thailiand, in fact they have been serious for longer than China has but the companies there are not blessed with the same infrastructure as China.

3. Dainty woofers have been known ot offer some good VFM esp. in the BOOM department. I mean that atleast the sound is clean and has a resonable attack. There are threads dedicated to Dainty on diyaudio. For more on Dainty, diyaudio is a good place to start.

good to hear some serious stuff on this forum......

Baleno is a very quite car from inside but the door metal is quite thin so it will need some damping required.....

@ Santosh..I'd love to have Sam sitting in my dicky ; guaranteed audio tweaking 24x7. As to my setup: The fronts are comps, rear co-axials (Polk Momo series MMC 6500 and MMC 690 respectively), JBL GTO Monoblock for the 12" JBL CS 1204B Subwoofer and an Alpine MRP-450 4 Channel Amp for the speakers, A JVC EXAD KW-AVX706 DVD receiver as the HU.

Yes of course but at an expense of upper midrange response.

I agree But I think Tanveer will not be spending so much for the upper midrange response.....:p...he wants more of the midbass which will come in a 2-way set

LBM why not let Tanveer decide that... And by the way, read Tanveers posts again, and again.... and once more. Oh forget it, you tend to generalise everything to your taste (or lack thereof).

Then make sure you don't generalise your opinions. Be specific as they can be misleading for other members.

There is a vast difference in 2-ways and 3-ways, i hope you know them and hopefully that is the reason for you putting Iridium 3 Ways in your car.

Normally, as many of you know, I moderate very privately via PM and editing posts as fast as possible. However this time I believe it is time for some public action.

Gunbir, there was ABSOLUTELY no need for the last line in your post #6110. TSK, I believe, does not have the budget for a 3 way. Having a good 3 way would also dictate upgrading his amp to fully exploit the nuances in the midrange that a 3 way can resolve.

I'll give TSK an example. I am working on a new home speaker for my son.

The woofer will be SEAS's new Nextel cone (6") W18NX.... and the tweeter their new T29 Cresendo. Gunbir will know these to not be cheap drivers. Adding a 4.5" midrange to this duo (the eventual speaker will end up being a 3.5 way) foruced us to upgrade every other component in teh signal path from the amps to the wires and now even the CD player (which might end up being a modified Roksan or something Phonosophie can cook up).

TSK, what I am saying is that I agree with LBM. A good 2 way can do 90% of what you want for 50% of the cost of a good 3 way. A good 3 way not only includes adding a 3rd element but also some serious crossover design (the LP and HP sections must no interfere with each other) and all this cost is amortised over a smaller user base.

A good 3 way will outperfrom a good 2 way. I agree.
a) the midrange has a dedicated driver
b) the ear is most sensitive (even 0.5db changes in freq. response are noticed) between 250Hz and 6000Hz (evne more so if the range is narrowed to the decade from 300 to 3000Hz).
but justifying the cost is only a decision the user can make, and this is NOT a matter of taste. It is usaully economic.

Enough Said.
