Thankyou Navin,

what would be the ideal amp in the 6-7k price range for the speakers . the power series by JBL that is. If there was a designated model number for the amp and speakers it would help as i could just make a request for just those specific model numbers.

Thanks again,

Nicedude

power series speaker would require good amps to show you their true potential
if its a 4 channel amp you want in your budget then all you can hope to have in that budget is the Blaupunkt 60*4 MK2 special,or the kenwood 60*4 rms KAC 8401 or the JBL CS 60.4

if youre looking for a two channel amp then there is a good powerful amp Pioneer 5300T or 5200T which belts out 75 rms per channel which would be better for the power series in this budget.however these may not be so easy to find

you may also look in the classifieds for a 2 channel DUB amp i think 2502 series which is being ofered by a fellow member in the budget you request

@govi, good to see you in ICE :)

Upgrading in stages is the best way!

I remember that Boschmann tube. It was somewhat ok with your stock speakers, but if you're getting good comps in front, I think you'll have to get rid of the tube.

You have 4" speakers in front right now. Going for 6.5" comps (you'll need a spacer) will make a world of difference. If it is for just a month or so, go ahead and run the comps from the HU itself. You'll be able to appreciate the improvement right after you add the amp.

Yes, get a 4-ch amp now. You can get a 12" sub later, drop it in a ported box, and run it off the bridged rear channels of the amp.

Comps + Amp for 7K would be pretty tough. You'll need to spend about 5K at least, for 6.5" comps. A bit less for 5.25" comps. An entry-level 4-ch amp from Blau or Kenwood (in the grey) would be 4.5 to 5K. Then there is the wiring (power + RCA) for the amp, which will run to 2K or so. That means you'll need to budget about 12K at least for a comp + amp upgrade.

If you don't mind waiting a bit, I'd suggest you wait for 2-3 months before picking up the 4-ch amp. Save up a bit of money and go for a slightly better 4-ch than the entry-level ones. You will appreciate the need for more power when you get a sub. :)

@hydra, sounds good. but what would be the list that i would be looking at? as in the mating of the electronic should not be an issue. what compos? and should be mated to which amp? and this amp when bridged should be able to power the sub well. dont want to go in for an entry level amp. i like the way the GTO 1204 looks. would love have (as you say it) a definition in the bass. dont want it to be boomy. more important right now is the compos. suggestions? and where do i get it installed? am not a big fan of emperor.

Guys, My current set-up is as follows :-

HU: Pio 6850
Rear : GT0937
Front Comps : Blaupaunkt 211 or something that is about a decade old. Duped by a dealer
Mono Amp : JBL 300.1
Sub : JBL 1204BR
Amp 2: Sony 4-Channel ( 554)

My comps are as good as not there because i hardly get any sound from them. I am contemplating changing the front comps and get rid of the sony amp and get a decently powerful amp. Help needed on the following:

AMP : Which model suggested?
Front Comps: I am confused between Polk Momo and JBL 6.5" ( 608C). I bieleve there is another JBL 6.5" model that i am not able to recollect. A680 or something.

I was quoted Rs.6.7K for the JBL 608C and 8K for Polk Momo ( was just enquiring). I can squeeze in a 15% discount and are B&W prices.

My overall budget is about 10K for Amp + Comps

In the 4.5K to 5.5K range, you will get JBL GT5 series comps, Bull 6.5" Comps, Hertz Dieci Comps (availability is limited to 5.25" now). I'd suggest you choose between these. You can check out how the Diecis sound in A S H W I N's Zen (I hope he has installed them by now) or in JayD's Matiz. I don't know of any TBHP installs of GT5 comps or Bull Comps in Kochi as yet.

I think you mean the GTO1004 amp. I think they are 13.5 or 14K. The GTO504 4-ch amp is about 9K, and pretty good.

You should look the GT5 series amps in your budget. GT5A604 is the 4ch amp in that series, priced at 7K I think. No definite idea of prices, sorry. A bit out-of-date, you see :D

The A604 should be good enough to drive the JBL GT5 12" sub (5K with B&W) well enough in a ported enclosure. The good old CS1204 sub-driver is still around and can be had for around 3K in the grey. Add 1K to 1.5K for a good ported box.

Maybe you should also give a listen to one of those Kenwood 4-ch amps KAC8401) that the Delhi boys are giving good reviews of. It is available in Delhi (in the grey) for about 4.5K. Should be about the same here too.

Blaupunkt also has an amp (GT-4 special) in the 5-6K range (with B&W), but I don't think it is as good as the Kenwood anyway.

For the install, if you're not comfy with Emperor, you should try End Effect (near Reniassance). The Kochi guys are pretty pally with the installer there (Rayeez) now, and he reportedly does a very good job.

Hydra ji,

Any specific reasons why you feel the kenwood amp is better than blau ?

Hello Gurus,

I have a fiesta 1.6S which came in with a 2Din music system with front components, Now i have an option of taking 10K worth stuff from the dealer. They have Kenwood & Sony products.

I want to use all the 10K for a good amp, and then get a subwoofer from somewere else, I badly need advice on the following

1. Which kenwood amp should i go for.
2. Which SW should be used with that amp.
3. Will the stock Fiesta HU support all this.I find the output of the stock HU very good.
4. What should be my setup like.(to power front or rear)
5. Can I change the stock rear speakers without modifiying anything, i.e. i want to change the rear speker to a better one and want it to be fit in the original provision. if so what speakers?
6. Where can get all this done in chennai, i want a neat install.

Please guys could you throw some light on this.

I've listened to that Blau amp a bit recently, with Hertz DCX165s & Blau GT Series coaxials (quite a few times) and I felt the power it delivered was a bit, uh "thin", and not substantial. I don't think it will drive a sub well enough. I'd listened to the Kenwood amp once with Alpine S-type 6.5" coaxials and an S-Type 12" Sub at another time and between the two I think the Kenwood amp souded like it was giving more power. It was driving the sub reasonably well (in a ported encl.).

Not a very fair comparison, I know (different times, different equipment, different music & different cars). Going by the numbers, both are 4 x 60w (and 2 x 180w) amps, and maybe on paper (other specs, the Blau looks a shade better). Also, I have used amps of both brands long back, and I've always felt the Kenwood was better (though I'd moved from the Kenwood to the Blau).

The Blau amp is good VFM all right, but IMHO when we have a better option in the same price range (ok, the Blau is with B&W, but the Kenwood is not) I think the better sounding amp should win :)

And no "ji" please. :)

The Blau amp is a bit mellow (heard with Blau components) the Kenwood seems to have more grunt (heard with JBL component/coax combo). I would think that the Kenwood would drive a sub better but really liked the mellowness of the Blau amp with the Blau Components.

Avi listen to both and see what you like. If you do pick the jbl comps, there is no way you can get a good 2/4 channel amp under 3.3k. Contact yash (rider 60) he would be able to get you the best deal.

EDIT: we can have a small TBHP meet when you upgrade your ICE :p

I already have an offer from Rider60 for 4.5K for the JBL comps without B&W. But, its the Amp that i am really confused about.

Need a suggestion on a good 4-channel JBL amp.

Dont know if you can get a JBL at that price but try for the kenwood 8401. A few ICE gurus gave good reviews about it. They say its a VFM amp with good SQ and all.

OT:what are you doing with your boston speakers and sony amp. If you are selling it I am the first in line. Let me see if i can afford it.

Whats the price for Ken 8401?

Its not Boston but, Blaupaunkt. I am going to get rid of them. Let me know if you would be interested.

whould a 6.5" compo fit the current stock location of the 4" speakers of the Ikon? how should the mod be done? if i go in for 5.25" compos, can it be accomodated in the stock location?

Doesnt the ikon have 5x7 locations all around ?
