I was talking about the speaker terminals only.

I am talking about my jeep ice so cannot install an amp.

A Doubt on setting the gains. I read the gain settings simplified thread, I got myself a multimeter to do the tuning. as per ohms law the target voltage is calculated as sqroot of {watts ( rms) x load ( ohms )}. The speakers which I have has is rated 2 Ohms, my amplifier is rated 85W RMS x 4 channels @ 4 ohms and 135W RMS x 4 channels @ 2 ohms

When tuning with the multimeter, should I be aiming at a voltage of 16.4 V @ 2 Ohms or 18.4 @ 4 Ohms?

JBL doesnt even make a 4" component system and i dont think other mfrs do either. Besides, you already have tweeters so why waste them?
Just buy a decent pair of 4" normal speakers. Make sure theyre powerful enough to handle an amp in the future.
If you want to save money on a crossover for this speaker (basically cut sme bass off the front speakers) i have an excellent supercheap idea.
Go down to lamington road and ask for 2 pcs of 100microfarad, 50Volt electrolytic capacitors. (Dont faint, its not that hard to say it) Should cost you about 10 bucks each. twist them back to back (Negative to negative)
then use the 2 positives as in/out.
Sam Bhai !! great piece of advice. Very old post of yours, but going through the ICE threads now is all about big bucks.

And regarding the Old Esteem, I do have a 97 Esteem and the stock Audio system that came with it. yes its a 12 year old, kenwood cassette player, with god knows what speakers. I have been using the Jugaads to run Mp3 player and Mobile phones till now, but now I am going for a new ICE. And I agree, the positioning of the front speakers is excellent in my car, with a bit tweaking in the balance, it creates a very nice effect.

Now as you have mentioned 4 years back, no one was making 4" Comps, what about now ? Are they still not available ?

What about rear speakers ?

Either is fine. the amp has current limitation and that will kick in if too much current is drawn.

iPOD/PMP/MP3 Player/MP3 Phone with Car Amplifier (NO HeadUnit)

I was thinking we can totally get rid of Head Units.

A good Amplifier, any MP3 playback capable gadget and speakers...Thats it!

This has many advantages like,
-No expensive HU required
-Loud Music due to Amplifier (also not wasting HU's internal amplifier which we mostly do when we install an amp)
-A phones jack that can be used with any gadget so lots of compatibility
-No question of theft of HU as it isnt there at all!! :-)
-Can hear FM too if your gadget has it

All we need is a cable from Amplifier which has phones jack which can be used with any MP3 playback capable gadget.

All MP3 playback gadgets have inbuilt equalizers, library and other features that make playback of music very easy.

Thank you. That post was made a long time ago. People today may be spending more on ICE than ever before, but we are still here to help those who want to spend as little as possible.

Today even fewer 4" speakers are available that before. I believe Kicker and Illusion do make 4" component sets, I could be wrong. I know JBL and Infinity do not.

What about rear speakers? The original factory position of the Esteem accommodates 6" speakers. Go for it.

You have forgotten an indispensable part of the audio system.

The PRE-amplifier.

The HU corrects and tweaks the raw signal from your player. It further divides it into front and rear preamp outs, allowing you flexibility, not only for balance, but also the front and rear fader output.
It can allow you to digitally process the signal, may allow you to adjust time delays to get a good soundstage.

It can also divide the the low signal and route it to the subwoofer amplifier, also correcting the phase and offering an electronic crossover.

There's a lot a HU does apart from playing discs.

Anyone can help me with a reasonable shop in Mumbai who is a good tuner of ICE and knows his job, I am looking at something in Andheri West or around, don't mind going upto bandra or something.

I don't want someone who will rip my pocket apart.

I have a honda civic with JL Audio Component 2 pairs with Blaupunkt amp and JL Audio Subwoofer 12" with Jl Audio mono block 1000/1 amp.

Just need someone to tune it properly as my guy has moved to Bahrain.

PLease help with some contacts.

Cheers.

Sam, you'll be surprised by the number of people who have tried this. The result usually is a fried output IC.

This has been done but it has limitaions as Sam has pointed out.

Ipod via ipod dock to RCA splitter (splits stereo signal to dual stereo). Splitter feeds 4 ch. amp. Front channel of amp feeds front speaker, other 2 channels bridged to sub. All controls (vol, eq, etc..) on ipod.

limitations
1. No rear speakers hence no fading
2. No TA
3. No balance control
4. you have to control ipod in car which is diffcult when driving.

I've been tweaking around the system for the last couple of weeks with the help of an audiophile friend. The first thing he suggested I get done was some damping for the front doors. Got that last weekend from FM drive. Made a world of difference to their sound. He also tweaked the amp settings and HU settings to bring out the best in the existing speakers. However, the bass on the rears is still too lose. Will try tweaking with the way the rears are installed (possibly some fiddling with the MDF tray) to see if that help make the bass tighter. I'll also be borrowing his sub to see if that suits my needs better.

Any suggestions on possibly tweaks on the rears from the Gurus?

Amp: JBL 1004 (added new)
Wiring: ground zero and monster

Got the install done from FM Drive (Pankaj Bhai).

While tuning the system, the shortcomings of the rears became quite apparent. I dont know if they are defective or are designed that way but the bass was a bit too loose (as if the speakers couldnt quite handle the power). Pankaj Bhai tuned the system so that the overall sound stage sounds quite good, but I cant help feeling that a better rear solution is warranted.

Would appreciate some inputs on what to install in the rear in lieu of the JBL 937's:
a) a new pair of 6x9's? If so which ones?
b) a Sub. If so which one and what type of install? would like to retain as much boot space as possible if going with a sub

I still have the GT5 2-way speakers and GTO tweeters I was using the front earlier, if needed.

My upgrade budget started out at 10k and has already reached 22k. I guess I can add another 8k or so for the rest of the upgrade. I mostly listen to rock (spectrum from Emerson Lake and Palmer to Megadeth). The Mrs. occasionally likes to listen to hindi movie songs.

I have a blaupunkt cassette player that has a provision for 4 speakers. I am going to use it to power only 1 pair of ovals (mostly JBL 937). So if i can bridge the HU preouts (?) will i get the speakers to go louder ?

we had discussed this in detail on this thread
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/ask-gu...ier-works.html

read through if you are curious WHY it will not work
