Search in the ICE section - there will be a couple of threads of how some members have modified the door pad with a fiber-glass enclosure to mount 6.5" mid-bass (tweeters were mounted in the sail panel, I think).

In terms of sound quality, there are very few 2DIN units that match good 1DIN HUs like Kenwood Excelon, Pioneer P80, Alpine etc.

Otherwise, 2DIN HUs provide some features that are difficult to implement in 1DIN HUs, primarily due to the fact that 2DIN HUs have a larger screen, touchscreen at that, to play with. Some of those features / facilities are:
- More information the song that is playing (off a pendrive or HDD)
- Better navigation of your music library
- (If Navigation and Route display is available) Voice guided Navigation built into the HU. GPS unit is connected externally (a box that hides away in the dash) - some come with the HU, some one has to buy separately

HUs with built-in Navigation usually cost upwards of 30K, while others without it cost 20-30K. 1DIN HUs (without built-in navigation, of course) with excellent sound would cost 12-20K, comparatively.

That sir, is a revelation. Thanks a lot for your help.

Will keep you posted.

Gurus,

Urgent advice needed.

I intend to fix a 2DIN head unit for my Innova.

I need to choose between the JVC av50 and Pioneer avh1490. Which one should I go for?

Thanks in advance

Help needed from the Gurus.

My current ICE setup is as follows: (Car is a 2003 Alto)
-Pioneer MVH 1490UB 1-DIN HU - 1 RCA out
-JBL CS4 coaxial speakers in the front (dash)
-MTX Audio RTC693 6x9 coaxial speakers in the boot (sealed boxes)

This is strictly entry level audio, and I am planning to upgrade it by a small margin.

Yesterday I was in the accessories shop for a GPS navigator, and spotted a subwoofer that said "Punch", and the cost was there on a sticker: 3500/-. I asked the guy what brand that was. He said it was a Rockford Fosgate, and showed me the woofer. It indeed was. He said it was 150W RMS. I was a little surprised with the pricing, he said that currently they are selling it at a discount. He also said that an enclosure for the same would cost 1500/-. I am not sure of the size, I think it was a 10".

So my query no.1: Can anyone tell me the real price of that sub? Sorry, I could not get a model number, but he told me that the sub is the most common model in the market and most people are installing it.

Apart from this, what I am considering is getting a JBL 2-channel GT-X424, using the single RCA out from the HU, and powering the woofer through that. He quoted 5K for the same. Is this price ok? I think it might be a little steep. Also, I asked him about the wiring kit. He said there was BOSS Audio, which cost 650/-. However, I have heard of many having a bad experience with BOSS, and did not want to go for it. He told me other brands like Stinger and Scosche, which are costing upward of 2K. If I go for these, it exceeds my tight budget. He also suggested an option of using power cable from a roll he has, said it would cost 150/- per metre, and regular speaker wires to supply the audio signal to the amp. This guy generally keeps good quality stuff, so I don't think the quality of these wires would be too bad. I am looking for the amp to be installed below the driver's seat.

He told me the total cost (sub+amp+wiring+installation) would come to around 10k. Is this a good price for what I am getting?

Furthermore, I shall be getting a 4-channel amp (JBL GT-X646 or something equivalent) in future to power the 4 coaxial speakers. I wanted components in front actually, but there is no space for the same in the dash, and I don't want to cut the door pads. I guess I shall use a Line-Converter to provide the audio signal to this amp.

So here goes my major query. For a budget setup, whatever I have decided at this point, is it fine? Any alternatives/improvements/suggestions that the gurus can suggest? And again, at the risk of repeating myself, am I being overcharged?

PS. Sorry about the long post, and thank you for your patience. :)

EDIT to the above post: I am also getting a 3 month old, JBL GT-X424 Amp with B&W for 3000/-. Would this be a better option to go for?

hi
needed help from gurus w.r.t the HU
i am confused between going for Pioneer Deh-3450ub which i am getting for 7800 & pioneer 6450BT for INR9000

i have bought a preworshipped Old Swift & plan to connect jbl 699 speakers in the rear tray powered by the HU itself, next month add jbl 646 amp, jbl cs1215 in a box & a componet in the front door.
the amp would power the sub in a bridge mode & the components.

kindly suggest which should i go with please:

Simplest question: How important is bluetooth for you? If really important, then 6450BT, else 3450UB.

Apart from this, weigh the other differences.

I guess that's all the differences, or at least the ones that matter anyways. Thus, the conclusion is that 6450BT is superior with all the above mentioned features at Rs.1200/-. In my opinion, that is a VFM deal, and it should be worth buying the 6450BT. However, please do not take my word for granted. Judge these differences for yourself, see which ones matter to you, and make an educated choice. Cheers. :)

thanks swarnava, you have listed out exactly the thing that was going on in my mind.
the 3 pre out was what sounds tempting, although as correctly mentioned by you i might not use it ever
again i would not be using Bluetooth but since the price diff is not much, it would not be a sin to show it off once in a while stupid:.
thank

but alas, we team bhpians are not easily satisfied, simply cause we are aware of so many options lol:
would/could you suggest any other HU for the setup
i was using a jbl X555 earlier & was super happy with it
my requirement would be i should be able 2 control the sub woofer, on/off as well as the level of it
it should provide adequate SQ for my speakers & amp
also EQ setting should be reasonable so that i can fine my sweet spot
a friend of mine is using 3450ub but the eq settings are preset & not much control is available
all i want is nirvana while driving stupid:

I am a proper noob when it comes to this so will somebody please tell me which setup is best: 4 components and two coaxials coupled with an amp and subwoofer, or 2 components and two coaxials coupled... or just four components along with the amp and subwoofer??

It would depend on 2 basic factor
· Your music taste, your preference of SQ, genre & how you like your songs
· The vitamin M you can spend

I listen to house, club & hence am bias towards bass, so I would go ahead with co-ax in the rear, a four channel amp to power the sub in bridge mode & the co-axs. You can audition these & add component if your taste dictates so.
I personally am not a big fan of component as its to lively, to say.

again as any team bhpian would say :your money, your music, listen for yourself & decide

Okay I do listen to house a lot but I also listen to old rock, garage, grunge, punk, trance pretty much anything except for mainstream hip-hop stuff so I need it to be bassy sometimes and bright the others I'm guessing there isn't one clear-cut solution then :P I have already got a pair of JBL GTO-949 coaixials, I was thinking i'd buy Infinity Kappa 65.9 components (if you know of anything else that's better suited to my more or less all-round taste in music, please suggest) as for the subwoofer, I don't want to be spending too much on it so I was thinking a basic alpine subwoofer as for the amp I have no clue which to buy... I also just wanted to know whether I should just buy one pair of components and use the coaxials in the rear, or whether I should buy two pairs of components one for each door and still fit the coaxials in the rear? someone told me it would be an overkill...I would like fresh opinions on this :)

i am not much of a guru, i can tell you from my experience
i had a jbl 646 amp (its a 4channel amp), a jbl cs 1215 woofer in an enclosure (would cost about 3-4k) & jbl 393 co-ax in the rear
i was mighty happy with this setup of mine & most non hardcore audiophile were also impressed.
my limited knowledge also would suggest having 2 pair of components would be an over kill
there might be times the music might get a bit toooo bright..go with your existing pair of 949 co-axs, team them up with a component in the front powered with jbl 646 amp and you should be decently surprised.

If you are looking for a budget sub, you can look at the RockFord FosGate P112S4. 12", and total VFM.!! In a sealed box of the recommended size, it provides really accurate and tight bass..
