Gurus - need advise, almost spent 3 days browsing the forum and advises given earlier.
I am looking for HU for Verna CRDI Oct 2008 Model-
1. I love neat looks and thus stock HU that came with Verna Transform was something I liked in terms of fit & finish. I am not sure how good the unit is in terms of features and accessories support. Can compromise on features if it is available at a reasonable price tag.
2. The issue that I see with available open market 2 DIN HU is that they do not fit properly / flush fit within the space provided in the car, also the illumination theme of Verna is Red & Green and thus the HU should match the theme.
3. I have a pioneer single DIN HU (with USB & HD) right now which I am planning to part away with and would seek your advise on a double din unit (touch screen - if it can stand the harsh temperatures as my car gets a parking space open to sun) else standard units (without touch) is okay for me.
4 For me features follow looks, anything feature rich but eye souring is a total no no.
5. My budget for HU is about 30 K (with some upside margin).
Please advise
Thanks in advance.
Regards

Modern OEM HUs will always look better integrated into the car's dash as In Car Entertainment morphs into In Car Infotainment. If you want to retain the stock HUs look AND functionality one option is to get a DSP Processor. There are quite a few of these in the market from Alpine, RockFord, Audison, JBL, JL audio etc. most of these cost more than 30K. This is still a nascent, niche area. Like everything prices will fall as the technology gets commoditised.
Outside of the above solution, many companies have touchscreen HUs that will fit your needs without the neat integrated stock look. Pioneer, JVC, Kenwood and Alpine would be your best bets. Since we can't really tell what will look good to you it makes sense for you to look at these HUs at your retailer/installer or the respective websites.
Another thing to keep in mind is that OE!s usually scrimp on speakers as well so after an HU upgrade you would want to consider a speaker upgrade with maybe an amplifier and if space permits, a subwoofer. 30K can quickly turn into 60 or even 90K! Be prepared!
One of my friends going to Singapore for a week. He said HU are cheap out there. Any idea about HU prices in Singapore. Any one has got HU from Singapore?
I need decent HU for my Figo with display if it is cheaper out there
Hi Gurus,
Need advice on adding an Amp to my current set up of
HU : JVC KW AVX 846
Compoents :JBL GTO 609C
Co-axials :JBL GTO 949
Is it necessary that I add a sub woofer for more Bass or can i just amplify
my co-axial's.

If you are adding an amp, then definitely go for adding a sub woofer. The bass from a sub can never be compared to that from a coaxial, no matter what you do.
However, I had a similar dilemna recently. I wanted to install an amp+sub to my current setup, but was held back due to budget constraints. In the end, I took the co-axials off the rear parcel tray and put them into big sealed partition boxes in the boot. Not exactly a substitute for a woofer, but has improved the bass response by a decent margin. As of now, I am happy with this, until richer times arrive again. clap:

Yes In General you get upto 30% cheaper and 40% on sale time. Nowdays - the difference is hardly 20% owing to Rupee VS SGD fall. One interesting thing outside is "customs" keep thier eye wide open when fights / ships from Singapore arrive in india. your friend will have to pay duties as per the scenario. Be careful here. Customs know that electronics are cheaper in Singapore, so be careful :D

The GTO series produces enough bass. IF you prefer thumping bass, you would need a Sub else i suggest GTO packs enough punch.
For filmi music GTOs would do but if you are listening to Rock albums & Dance collection, Sub-Woofer would be better. The only risk you run is that you would not be able to listen to the Vocal and Bass if both are fired at the same note. GTO Twins and Subs would bring out the bass in such a way that the vocal part will not come out audible.
hello gurus, i have a 2000 ohc type 1 which had an old jvc HU. i was looking at the jbl gtx333 as a replacement with a decent pair of good front speakers. i wanted to know much will the cheapest HU with Ipod connectivity and built in bluetooth cost ? which would be the best speakers for the front as i will disconnect the rear speakers. how much will a HU with just usb, aux and Ipod function cost ?

Be prepared to spend in the tune of 18000/- . AVH-2490BT is good with Crisp BT sound quality. This is one of the cheapest you can get with BT, Ipod & USB.

Since its a OHC, a 5.25" or a 6.5" component set could be used in the front. I recommend the JBL GTO series for budget installs. Mid level speakers for budget money. Do set the crossover switch at -6db.
Hi Navin!
I recently bought JBL GTO 949 and Kenwood SD4549 for my car. Do you recommend components or speakers for the rear if running without an amp? Sorry if I sound noobish here. I got GTO 949 for around Rs 4000, are there good components available for anything less than 7k? What is ideal in the front of a Santro/Swift-Speakers or components? Any idea about some model numbers? Budget for the front is around 2-4k.

Look around for Pioneer MVH1490, or JBL GT x333. In my opinion, the Pioneer is a better bet. The JBL has lots of complaints, at least going by the reports in the forum. Also, I have been using the Pioneer myself, and no complaints. The SQ is pretty decent.
A friend has the 333 installed in his Alto, and when we installed front 4" speakers to the car, we noticed an issue. No idea whether this was specific to his unit or whether this is a defect in the 333.
When we tried testing the front speakers, we discovered that the Balance function is not proper. When the fader was set to Front, only the front speakers played. But, if the balance was set completely to the Left or Right, the corresponding speaker would play, but the other speaker would also play, albeit at a lower volume.
Few months back it has cost him 5k, I believe it is now available for much cheaper.

try JBL GT-X646. Its a 4 channel amp and it would power your front and rear speakers. First go in for an amp and test the sound, then go in for a Sub (if at all).
It would cost you 11,000 with installation. (9000 for amp + 2000 for wiring kit)
I am looking towards replacing the existing components speakers in my OHC.
The speakers on front door are practically bust, and the tweeter on dash bark like woofers instead of mellow tweeting leading to "ear ache".
My plan is to set up warm sounding speakers since I have realized that is my general taste. No piercing highs, no boom-boom bass. Of course this is not at the cost of clean and clear high end, and fast, tight, precise bass.
What brands should I outright eliminate (strictly no dhin-chak / lajpat nagar sound) (people from delhi may realize it).
What should I look out for?
Also where would I get these brand in Pune?
PS: the budget would be in whereabouts of 10K. Front comps - two woofers and two tweeters.

Try jbl gto-609c. Costs 7,000 with installation. It gives a good balance between Bass and Vocal.
You may have to change the wiring also i guess. If the wiring needs to be changed, set aside 2000 for that.
The product is a very common and fast moving product. so your local accessory store will have it.
