p.s. Searched the forum before making a new thread, but did not find anything relevant...

I want to install a better HU in my i20. Does anyone have any idea if this is possible and how to go about it?

The size of the HU looks to me the same size as a standard double din system.. is it? Or will additional adapters be required for fitment?

p.s. I dont mind the steering remote not working.

In all probability you will need a fascia even to install a double din HU.What Hu do you have in mind ?

DjNik: Not finalized. Looking at something with integrated GPS

It is possible as per Satya (blueraven if im correct) who has an accesories shop here in Bangalore.

He said he has done it for a lot of i20's when I enquired with him. Try PM'ing him and check about the same.

His shop name is Evo.

I don't know but go through this link, might help you.

Nice article.
I had raised the same Q about Punto in another thread but didnt get replies.
So will be watching this thread closely cos if something can be done for i20 then same can be done for Punto as well.

You sure can go the amplifier and subwoofer way on the in-dash in Punto. The originals look really good and I would think hard before trying to change it to anything aftermarket.

Sorry for going :OT , but i just had to ask this.Is WWW.************* some kind of sister site to team-bhp ? It looks little bit similar minus the number of members lol:

Come on guys, I am sure someone else has already swapped the HU in his i20..

Even the local ICE installers here in Kolkata are clueless!

Abhi, I'm in the same dillema as you are but Satya has got some confidence in me.

I found this pic on the web, should be for a European model as the Blinker controls are on the Left. Check it out.

MODS - I'm still not getting the hang of uploding pics on the forum. Kindly help me out in understanding.

I had similar queries and always wanted to start same thread. Have booked i10 sports and was wondering how could I spice up the ICE. nice one Abhij on starting this one, will follow this thread closely. ICE gurus give your heads a good scratch and pour some ideas here.please:

Got some info from here .. Handsfree Car Kit Installation - Hyundai-Forums.com

Not very useful though...

"OK if anyone is interested, I took the headunit out of our I20 style today to fit a handsfree telemute lead.

Very easy, just use a small flat blade screwdriver or bread knife to unclip the whole silver surround from one edge (just pick any edge), careful not to chip the silver, and then just work your way round the whole centre console and unclip it by hand.

The headunit is held in by 4 crosshead screws and one 10mm bolt in the centre.

The headunit uses standard ISO plugs.

Very easy trim to take apart.
"

I saw a I20 fitted with an aftermarket HU. It was the Pioneer 5190UB or something
So it can be assumed that the dash kit for the i20 is available.

I dont think you need a fascia adapter as the OE stereo looks like it can be removed and not integrated like in many new vehicles.
All you might need is a spacer to fill the gaps(spacers come with most 2DIN HUs if not, you can cut one out of plastic or similar material). Go to a GOOD ICE installer and your problem will be solved.

First step is to find the Fasia outlined by Grand Kruizer. This will accomodate a 2 DIN HU as well. 2 DIN Hus do not nesscarily have better sound than 1 DIN HUs but often come with large touchscreen displays favoured by many here (I'm too old to understand touch screen - beside with my bad eyes these displays are unreadable in direct sunlight).
