Here are the first batch of WIP pics. Today managed to make some time in the evening and got there right in time when the ICE work had begun. The custom made rear parcel shelf had arrived. What a lovely sight and right next to it was another lovely sight, the custom made sub enclosure with the Illusion sub neatly installed. Was waiting to hear them real bad.

For the rear fills the gto limited edition 947 coaxials were chosen. Not bad at all albeit a little too bright for my taste. Nothing a little tuning can't fix (I hope)

The front components will be fitted on the doors in the usual manner by using some space and depth of the map pockets and the tweeters will be placed on the door panel as well. Three mdf rings have been glued and screwed together for each channel. The mdf rings needed a little reshaping to fit the front comp speakers. The install will happen tomorrow. Expect finished pics of the install tomorrow or the day after (good quality).

Was waiting for the moment when all the wiring was done so as to power the amp. What a lovely feeling it was to see the blue glow of the indicator when the amp was powered on.

Once he HU connections were made to test the sub and the rear speakers, the excitement was hard to describe. The moment the cd went in and nd the track started and the gains were being adjusted, I was completely speechless. Then the bass kicked in and it felt real sweet. Every bit like how Frank had described. However I went in for a 1.3 cu.ft enclosure. Sorry and a big thank you franky.

The only thing missing now is the speaker cover/guard for the electras 6.1, that did not come with the speakers.Originally didnt bother about it as they were going to be installed in the Linea's stock location and needed no protection. If anyone has a spare pair I'd be very grateful for your generosity.

Can't wait for tomorrow when the components will be connected and the ICEin will be completely done!

Sorry about the picture quality. The usual phone cam stuff. Have had a really tiring day so its a very insipid post but the excitement within cannot be expressed. Finally my very own decent ice setup! :)

Thats cool..Am waiting for the next set eagerly

Very good set of equipments.
why are you risking the amplifier?

@shreyas - Thanks . Will upload them soon. Could not be there today when the comps were fitted , etc. Pics should be up Monday.
@ Gigy - What do you mean risking the amplifier? Do you mean installing it under the seat?

Yes installing under seat is risky. possibility of water damage during monsoon, car/matting wash and wet shoes of co passengers.

Points well taken. There has been some padding that has gone under the carpet and actually raised the level of the amp in the cavity. For one the amp is required to be fitted horizontal. Second did not want it in the boot as I did not want it seen as well as taking up whatever little space is left. The chances of luggage/cargo scratching it or damaging it is greater in the boot, if someone is careless when loading or unloading stuff.

Next on the agenda, and for the most part I intend it to be DIY is the tuning. What better way is there to learn it via DIY and also referring the stuff on this subject here on the forum as well as the web?

Congrats on the setup pranava. The custom made parcel shelf looks uber cool.
Don't worry about the amp under the seat. Let it be safe and hidden.

A few pics of the Illusions please, and the tweeter placement.

By the way, how many MDF spacer rings were used per door to accommodate the mid-bass driver? And were they mounted on the door panel or the metal door? Some details will be really helpful as I am planning to upgrade to 6.5 mid-bass in an Alto. :)

There is a thread about gain settings here.

Thanks the Lord. Give me a day or two and will have the finished install pics for you. The car is out with the missus right now so cant get the pics.

the custom made shelf does look good and also most importantly hides the sub from prying eyes as well as has its utility as a parcel shelf and aslo gives me adequate luggage space beneath it.

We have used 3 mdf rings per component mid bass and they were mounted on the door panel, by cutting into the map pockets.

The tweeters have also been placed on the door panel itself.

Do not worry frank saar you know it will be well taken care off.

Have you decided on the grill/cover for subwoofer, else its too delicate to be kept that way?

Regards.

Mr. Rao to the best of my knowledge it was custom built for the Wag. Have to still settle bills for the install and stuff so am not aware of its pricing but am sure it is within 1.5 to 2k. Its well finished and heavy and has been screwed to the brass holder/clamp

My first attempt at setting the gain and tuning the setup was not bad at all.As of now all eq and sound settings (SLA, etc) are flat or deactivated. I'm sure there will be a few more rounds of tuning, as my ears start demanding for more and for the better. One thing I have realised is that the 5 year old pio HU has to go.The input signal's pretty weak and the gain knob was conservatively set at 50% of its rotation.

Coming to the illusion electra 6.1,they are not bad at all. Was told that they are the newer ones and are much better and kick 'donkey', but since I havent really heard the older ones so can't really compare. As of now they feel just about right, not too bright and the mids seem good. I think there's a long way to goon the tuning front before they can give their best.

Gotto go now for another round of tuning and, enjoying the trio - Santana Brothers. Cheers. :)
