Can a car sub be used in home???

I wanted to know if a normal car sub can be used in home? For e.g. i have a IDV3 12" sub in my car. Can that be hooked into a home theater and played? Or to put in a better way, can i add a car sub to a home theater in order to get a good punch from it?
Mods, if you think this is not the place for this question, then please merge it to the thread where its need to be.
Guys help.
