make sure that there are no metal edges/anything other than the stuff you want to remove in the proximity of the PS fluid tank. It might get stuck there, would be almost impossible to remove, and you may end up worse off than you were before

I will. Thanks. I also need be sure that the magnet is not so small that it passes out of the power-steering fluid reservoir, if, God forbid, it gets detached from the suspending wire!

No it will not pass through. Its flat and quite big for the PS pipes.
