Best Audio Option in 30K

Sirs,

I am buying either of the two - Chevy Optra 1.6 or a Safari Dicor Lx within teh next 10 days. I am a naive as far as Music system installations in a car go. Would you please advise what is the best possible system with a ange of 25-35K I can get installed. Please take into considerations that teh chevy comes with 4 pre installed speakers and a stereo system, which I believe are of no use. Will I need to replace everything - the music system as well as all 4 speakers or the front two can stay? Please also advise what will be teh best setup for teh safari keeping in mind that it does not come with a back tray.

thanks

well aroon..it would best if you first decide on which car you want to buy and then try to choose the system accordingly once your decision is made..every car has its own unique features and reproduces sound differently..so one cannot expect the same system to sound good in all the cars..

anyways just for the basic knowledge :
1. you will need a good HU preferably alpine/pioneer/sony with 3 preouts..
2. component speakers at the front for optimal front soundstage..
3. rear speakers where its best to use 6.5'' coaxials and not the oval also called 6x9's if your interested in a sub too..these rear speakers are to be used only as fillers against the normal misconception that all the sound should come from the rear..
4. a good 4channel amplifier to connect these speakers and the sub too..
5. and obvioiusly a subwoofer to produce your lows..

well there are umpty number of brands in the market, any brand is available in india as of now..you name it and we have it..so choosing the best among them in the budget constraints that one has is the task..for this it is very important to know which car that u have finalized on and also the kind of music you listen to..hope that helps..feel free to ask and im sure all the guys here will be glad to render help..

PS : 30k is quite a good amount to get a good sounding setup..

Yeah, I guess you are right. I will get back to you guys with my queries once I buy the car. I won't mind extending my budget even higher but this time I want a great sounding system. Hope with support from here, I will be able to work it out.

Thanks for now for the initial info. Pretty useful. Thanks.

Aroon. for the optra with 30K I would look at 10K for the HU, 10K for front and rear speakers and about 10K for a sub and 4 ch. amp. using the HU to power the rears. this config has been advised for many a sedan. the Dicor is another vehicle. for one, it would need more sub power as it has a larger cabin.

well as a matter of fact let me answer ur question put forth in the 1st post..for a starters avoid the factory audio setup..try to get some cash discounts on them if possible..ICE is best done as an aftermarket..

for the chevy :
as far as my knowledge goes all the 4 doors of the optra can accomodate 6.5'' speakers(thought would love the gurus to confirm on this)..so the best setuo would be :
1. alpine 9833 HU (production is stopped but available in the market) or pioneer P1Y HU..this should cost you around 13k..

2. get good 6.5'' components for the front door pads from a good speaker manufacturing company(not necessarily sony and pioneer to be the best choices)..the popular brands we recommend are alpine, hertz(from my personal experience),JBL,blaupunkt..well we have other brands too like RF,LA,MBQ,boston, soundstream et all..these component speakers will give u the best soundstage..these will cost u around 7k..

3. get good 6.5'' coaxials for the rear doors..remember these are to be used only as fillers and not in a way such that they overpower the fronts..it would be better to keep the fronts and the rears preferably from the same series and the same company..these will cost u roughly around 4k..

4. a good 4-ch amp to run the speakers..however u can use the amp of the HU to run the rear speakers and use the 4 ch amp to connect the fronts and the sub..amps preferred are the alpine amps (though a bit expensive),blaupunkts at a fair price, but taking the steal at the price will be the pioneer 6100 amp at 7k is great VFM..u can get a sony 504 too for 4k..

5. as far as the sub goes u can get a sub and use a sealed enclosure for it to achieve tight and punchy bass or else get a tube sub which will give u more of boom boom..do read around the ICE section and u will find plenty of info on subs and enclosures..this will cost you around 5-8k..

total : 13+7+5+7+8=40 k at the most..hehe i know its way over board ur budget but we tend to go overboard sometimes..actually we can narrow it down to a better price based on ur inputs further and the brand u choose..these prices are just a rough estimate,so dont be hard pressed by them..

for the best setup as of date on a optra i would say it has to be that of Rudra's,but knowing that the setup cost him over a lakh im not surprised..

for the dicor :
points 1,2,3,4, all are the same only differnce being a change in the size of the speakers and the way u mount them..principle is the same basically..as far as the subs are concerned, viewing the fact that u will hardly haves space in the DICOR i would say go with the Image Dynamic subs as they require less of box volumes and are snug fit under the front seats..do wait for the others to chip in..im sure they will give finer details..

hhmm..M.A.Audio,visonik,twister eh..the only thing missing from that list is M.B.Quart and earthquake..remember these brands guys..im sure JB,JK,sam,navin,v1p3r and me certainly do..

btw whats a dual coil speaker that u have mentioned,is it same like our DVC subs..if yes then how does it tend to be advantageous over the single coil speakers we get in the market..pls explain ..

and the visionk amp gives 250x4 rms..wow im impressed..looks like the cabling is a bit too cheap, which company are they..though i would prefer some better cabling as it plays a very important role..

Is this amplifier packed in a suitcase and cooled using fans?

Aroon, if you dont mind i will take up mclaren's suggestion of temporairly closingthis thread and will reopen it when yuo decide on your car. meanwhile you can budget you car audio system as 3 approximately equal parts (1 part HU, 1 part front and rear speakers, 1 part sub and amp). This will give youa starting point when you are looking for audio components and can later be fine tuned.
