Hello Audioheads,

Finally after driving my Dec'2007 Estilo with Creative 2.1 + MP3 player, I have finally upgraded it to :

HU : JVC KD-R816 Bluetooth / Dual USB iPod-iPhone
Rear Tray : Polk Audio db691
Front Door : 4'' JBL GT5-S204 (Have the factory space for 4'')

Problem:

If the volume is taken beyond 25, the fronts give up and I can hear them blown up with heavy beats (Only for song with heavy Bass). I know for a 4Incher, this is bound to happen.

I was looking for an option wherein this could be overcome as the rest of things are good to handle volume above 25.

The installer suggested to replace the fronts with 4incher Blaupunkt Component Speaker ( i am guessing that he is going to use only the speakers from it, 200W against 120w/160w JBL)

Hence looknig forward for a better solution from all the gurus here

[PS: Will be posting the pics and Tlogs soon as I am still working on my few old Tlogs.]

Hi! Congrats on your new setup.

Actually, its not the speakers which are getting strained, its the HU amp which is cliping (i.e. crossing the limits).

@nomad: yes bro, you must upgrade your head unit.
Go for a Pioneer Single Din HU.

Thanks for that question. Even I was wondering as JVC model is a 5v as against Pio's 2.5v

Any which ways with various setting on the HU, finally it is time to replace front JBL GT5-S205 with something more powerful to match the Polks.

Alright guys,

Just replaced the JBL GT5-S205 with Blaupunkt Velocity Vc542 Component System and the output is awesome without Amp/Subs.

Amps/Subs on its way in couple of months.

Till then next project will be a DIY for damping using yoga mat.

Some pics to enjoy...........

Set High Pass Filter in the HU @ 100 Hz.

Now time to have an upgrade soon (addition to current setup)

Guru's, I have following basic setup in my Old Gen Estilo:

HU : JVC KD-R816 Bluetooth / Dual USB iPod-iPhone
Front Door : Blaupunkt Velocity Vc542 2-Way Component System
Rear Tray : Pair of Polk Audio db691

Now, I am looking for second step upgrade. Not sure if I should go only for Amp or a Box along with it. And if I am getting either Amp or box both, how should I go for it and which one better suited for my surrent setup.

An amp would make the most difference at this time. Add the box (I suppose you meant for the rear oval coaxes) only if you are finding that the boominess of the ovals is bothering you.

The ovals are to be there. Withbox I meant a sub, as in if I should be going only for the Amp or add a Sub as well.

If only an Amp than a 2 channel or 4?
Budget for this next step would be 10k. So what would be preferred considering the quality of my current setup?

Since you have ovals, you already have some low end. An amp will improve that a bit. A good economical 4-ch amp (Kenwood, JBL, Pio, even Sony) should cost you ~6K or less. Then there is some money required for the cables and installation. Get used to this setup, and then you will be able to pin-point what is missing. Add the sub after that. You will anyhow overshoot your budget :)
