DUAL SUB SETUP, any suggestions?

MODS :- KINDLY MERGE / MOVE if need be

Hi guys,

I'm looking forward to an ICE upgrade, I'll be brief with the requirements, kindly advise.

Current setup:-

1.Pio 3250UB HU( 2 pairs of pre outs front and rear, no sub :-( , and yes the rear cannot be switched to the sub mode, plus NO LPF/HPF filter on HU)
2.Bull Audio 6.5 Inch Components.

Upgrade in mind:-
1.A sub(open to suggestions) price not more than 4k

2.An AMP to run the sub and the components. price not more than 6k

Models for the sub and the AMP shortlisted:-

AMP:- Kenwood M845 ( the cheapest Ive found so far)

SUB:- Since I have someone coming down from UK, and Ive found a site that is giving me a great deal on 2 subs, here is what I have found:-

An AUDIOBAHN AW1251T ( never heard of it, but youtube videos look good)
Price about Rs.1500 each
Specs (400 W RMS, dual 4-ohm voice coils)

A JBL GTO1202D (300 w RMS,dual 2-ohm voice coils)
Price Rs.1500 each

Both look good, but one is a 2 ohm DVC and one is 4 ohm DVC.

So hypothetically I'll have to buy 2 audiobahns to make 'em work in bridge mode or connect a single to one channel only.( if im right)

Or I can buy 2 Jbl's and wire them in 2 ohm mode (each one) and connect both of em to each rear channel individually.

I know , You might be thinking that Im not supplying enough juice to the sub to their full potential, but since im a little short on the cash front I'll be getting a mono later.

SO, What do you think is the best possible option?

My poison:- mix of SPL and SQL

OR SHALL I JUST FORGET ABOUT THE DUAL SUB SETUP AND SAVE SOME CASH by buying a single JBL.( I'm a sucker for a dual sub setup, looks awesome)

Cheers

GT

PS: A quick reply shall be appreciated, sale ends monday :-)

Please avoid Audiobahn by all means! They are worse than Kenwood amps/subs.

You have nowhere in your budget accounted for wiring damping and installation. And please remember that with that much output you should have damping. Save some and look at our forums DIY section for help :-P

You have also not mentioned what vehicle this is you are looking for.

For your question. I have never auditioned audiobahn but I can say that they are well known. The JBL however here is no stranger with many setups at various price points. For most purposes a single sub at the onset will make very good sense. And the money you save can go towards good installation and boxing and wiring/better amp.

We can grow our ICE in phases look at our very own frankmehta for inspiration :-D so buy the rest when you have the vitamin M and the stomach to swallow it!

Well, for damping, I kept aside 2-3k I'll be going for wurth, as I have done a DIY of it in the past and the results were acceptable.

For the Sub it seems, I shall go solo ( a single sub) and get a better amp , maybe a rockford entry level 4 channel that'll set me back by 9k.
Plonking this whole setup in a swift with a final budget of about 12 k.

It seems the only attraction I had was the dirt cheap price, I think its wiser to go solo.

As you said both Audiobahn and JBL are good it leaves me in a dilemma which one to choose.

Why Panky? I've read online that the company was off the map for a while, and now it seems that they are back with a bang.

Reading online is quite different from experiencing first hand! I had a horryfying expereince using Audiobahn amp and sub. When I discussed with people, I found I was not the only one. They are overrated crap.
