Sathee46's SQ Sibling
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/car-entertainment/96531-sathee46s-sq-sibling.html)
It's been a while since I posted in this section. That is because the ICE in the fiesta is all good and I have nothing much to do in it these days. But yet the craving for good music & ICE never ends, SO once again i start my ICE exploration. This time not for the Fiesta but for a all new car, I give you all my latest ICE on my Figo
About the Figo
The Fiesta is a great car to ICE, mainly because of the high midbass location and cabin charecterstics. I'm sure most would agree. Having all the charecterstics of the Fiesta without a boot means the Figo is a great car to ICE too. This Car is a sibling to the 1.6 S, so should be the ICE.
The moment we finalized the plan of purchasing the figo, I started preparing for things to go into it. Before I give you all that, Here is the little Figo getting ready for all that music.
Great choice of alloys! That looks like one nicely done Figo.
Looking forward to the ICE equipment. By the way, is it tough to replace the stock music system of Figo? (as in harness/dash-kit/wiring)
Yes, First place i go looking for my ICE components was indeed my shelf.
The Amplifier
I already had the Boston GT 42 with me, for a long time. Though i had no use for it, I just bought this amp for it's amazing qualities like the Dual Mono, the 450 watts power output for the sub, the good SQ capabilities, Built by STEG, Italy and so on. I'm so lucky I had this beauty. I have already seen this installed on Bakiya's Fiesta so we all know the power and SQ qualities of this amp, I have then recommmended this amplifier for many of my friends and eventually I had bought one myself.
Some Specs of the Amp
Signal-To-Noise Ratio 100 dB
Amplifier Output 4-channel
Crossover Slope 12 dB/octave
Low Pass Frequencies 50 - 350 Hz
High Pass Frequencies 20 - 350 Hz
Amplifier Output Details
75 Watt - 4 Ohm - 12.6V DC - 4 channel(s),
120 Watt - 2 Ohm - 12.6V DC - 4 channel(s),
250 Watt - 4 Ohm - 12.6V DC - 2 channel(s),
350 Watt - 2 Ohm - 12.6V DC - 2 channel(s),
100 Watt - 4 Ohm - 14.4V DC - 4 channel(s),
150 Watt - 2 Ohm - 14.4V DC - 4 channel(s),
300 Watt - 4 Ohm - 14.4V DC - 2 channel(s),
450 Watt - 2 Ohm - 14.4V DC - 2 channel(s).
The Sub-Woofer
So the Amp gives a good 450 Watts RMS at 2 Ohms, Which Sub should i go for? I know this is a easy guess.
Once again I did not have to go looking for options outside, I Had the IDQ with me from my previous install. I've been holding on this sub as I had no heart to sell it. Lucky I get to use this again. But 12 inch in a hatch where the space is so scarce, hmmm, lets move this to a boot where there is more space. So the IDQ get back to it's previous home the 1.6S. And in comes the little bass bomb to do duty in the Figo. It is more suited to the small car.
Some Specs of the G5
10" Dual 4 ohms G5 Series Subwoofer
Power Handling:
Peak: 900 watts
RMS: 450 watts
Impedance: Dual 4 ohms
RadialVent ridgid cast aluminum chassis
RadialVent cooling directs airflow around the voice coils for increased power handling
2-3/4" 4-Layer Voice coils
So, What's new in this setup?
The Head Unit
Amp, Sub - OK. We need a head, Which one. I have the 117, it's good, But I dont want another one. My search was simple, I want Direct Ipod Support, 24bit DAC, HPF, LPF, TA and above all VFM. very less options I had. I intially thought of the Pio AVH 3250DVD, Not sure of it's SQ capabilities and I did'nt want to make the same mistake I did in my fiesta twice. Next Kenwood KDC-X8016BT - Very good does everything a SQ enthusiast wants but pricey. looking around I found the KDC-X7016 which is nothing but KDC-X8016BT minus the bluetooth, and I'm no big fan of bluetooth. VFM pricing, 2 years warranty, Very good UI. Not much to think KDC-X7016 is my HU.
Some Specs
3 Preouts (4V)
Digital Time Alignment / Sound Management System
24bit D/A Converter
iPod/iPhone Direct Connection
Signal/Noise Ratio (dB) 110dB(1kHz)
The Components
Now comes the main and very critical component - The Components
Choices I had were Boston Pro60/50, Rainbow CMX 465 Extreme, Boston Z6, Infinity Kappa and Some component in Audison i was told.
The Pro60 was not available and I was not so sure if I will be satisfied by the 5 3/4's, the Rainbow's were attractive, dual Woofer setup. But I was not sure on how I will install them and neither I knew of their SQ abilities, Moreover before I could finish my research on them, they got sold. The Z6 was a beauty, But too pricey and I was not sure if could power them well with the amp I have, the Infinty was my last option, I was all ready to go for it. Then a good friend of mine tells me there is some components available in Audison and asked me if I wanted to check it out. The only components i knew Audison made were the Thesis. No way the thesis is here, and even if it's here I will have to sell half of the car to buy it. I went to check it out and found something new, The Audison AV K6 VOCE. I told them I will check and get back. Did a quick Google and got only handfull results
European In-Car Speaker System 2010-2011 - Audison Voce AV K6 | EISA - The European Imaging and Sound Association Audison AV K6 VOCE 6.5
And this video
YouTube - Audison VOCE
Though I could not find many reviews about this, Somehow I was very attracted to this set of speakers. The Specs were good, Thought I will go for it. And I should say in the end it was a very very good choice made, Having the Illusion Carbons on the other car, to be satisfied with a set of speakers once again is not so easy. I'm with a big grin since the moment they whole system was powered up.
Some specs
Power Handling W 250 (peak) / 125 (continuous)
Impedance Ω 4
Freq. Response 50÷22kHz
Sensitivity dB/Spl 91
How much was the head unit?
The HU costs 13k, With Bill and 2 years warranty.
Interesting. How much did the speakers and rest of the stuff cost?
The Speakers cost me 23k. I had the amp and sub with me which were bought a long time ago for 26 & 20k. Add to this the install/wiring costs which I think is around 10k
Congratulations on the new setup.
Looking forward to an audition (hope it materialises atleast this time lol:)
Woooohoooo. Fords these days are the BEST ICED vehicles on Team Bhp huh ;-)
Cheers mate. Love the stuff you've chosen. How DOES she sound now?
hey friends,
dude it is indeed an interesting choice of equipments, how would you compare these two headunits, the alpine 117 and the kenwood 7016, which one in your opinion is better and if it isnt too much of a hassle then please do mention why too, those speakers looks quite sturdy, mind telling us what those puppies sound like?

Thanks Frank. No Doubt, after you guys have taken ICE to a different league on your Fords.
She sounds great. Since the Sub woofer has already had a good workout on the fiesta it's the star in the setup right now. Add to the fact it's placed right into the cabin.

Both HU's are very good units. The 117 has it's pro's in having a Burr-brown DAC which works for USB/CD/IPOD, the Direct IPOD connection but it has no LPF/3 way out of the box and it's expensive in comparison. It suits my needs very well. The 7016 is a VFM package, has all you need for a good setup HPF,LPF, 24Bit DAC, Direct Ipod. But the sound signature of both the HU's are very different. At 13k I think there is no better HU in comparison. But it's too early for me to pass a judgement on which is better. Infact, I love them both.
Congrats Satish. That's a neat looking install and I bet it sounds even better. Which wiring kit was used?
Let's have an audition next time you are in Chennai. Time to add the Figo ICE to your signature as well. :D
Thanks Gilead, Let's have a audition soon. I'm no big fan of these fancy amp wiring kits, the Figo uses a similar power wiring setup like the fiesta but a dual 8 guage one. The RCA's are from Audison.
