Suggestions for iPhone based ICE

Hello everybody, once again !

If you read my other post on Tata Indigo modification, the part which I will be left to do after that would be ICE.

I am looking for a simple, straightforward music system, that should just do only this job:

1. I need to be able to connect my iPHone (or iPad) via USB into it.
2. I should be able to select playlists, browse efficiently, for e.g. I want to listen to Metallica song, I should be able to select M directly. - All this from the player and not from the iPhone
3. It should immediately pause audio if I receive or make phone calls, and I should be able to use hands free functionality, efficiently! That means the other party should be on car speakers, and the MIC should be sufficiently sensitive to pick my voice driving at higher speeds with some noise cancellation.
4. I just need a decent amplifier, or can do without one as well, the audio quality is more important to me than the volume/loudness itself.
5. It should have adaptor to control this functionality through steering wheel remote.
6. I do not care if it doesnt have a CD player. I do not care if it doesnt have Radio FM. iPhone is all that I need it to work with. I have tons of info getting changed everyday to keep me happy for days together (read podcasts). Also in the near future with 3G getting cheaper (or my company sponsoring an unlimited plan) I'd rather use online radio - atleast within Bombay and Pune

One final thing- where will I get this in Bombay? How much will it cost approximately? I dont wish to spend too much on it, lets say I am on a budget of under 12K. Possible? If not dont hesitate to suggest

Thank you once again.

I would have recommended you Alpine CDA 117, it works with Iphone, also with Ipod. Also supports Bluetooth (you would need a get the bluetooth kit seperately though). But it is expensive...

Thanks invincible7.

I did some research online and found the Parrot Rki8400 as a perfect match. However I'm not sure where I could find in Mumbai. I'm OK with any other substitute like kenwood or Alpine. How much does the CDA117 cost?

Try Kenwood 7016BT (with CD, ~12K) - comes with Bluetooth and iPod interface and cable. Should be available at your friendly neighborhood ICE dealer.

Please take a note that the iPad cannot be charged (or will not charge) with in-car/HU USB ports since it requires a higher voltage.

Re: Suggestions for iPhone based ICE

The charging voltage remains the same - 5V. It only requires higher current while charging. Since normal USB ports throttle this current to 500mA, the iPad will not charge. However, if one finds a 5-10W cig-lighter charger, that will charge the iPad. Yes, HU USB port won't support it.
