Another Wheeled Wonder - Slag Pot Carrier. Note from Support: Moved from Fleet Admiral Togo Heihachiro - Toyota Fortuner. Life Sails On... Another Wheeled Wonder ! May 21, 2011.
Was getting back home this evening when I ran into this wheeled wonder on the highway. Thought of sharing the snaps with you - couldn't resist !
What exactly is this ?
For the time being let us call it 'Parsi'. That's what I thought 'he' looked like with a huge nose. You see all my close Parsi friends have rather long proboscises. Hey no offence meant my dear friends and others - all in good fun !
Hey you think only your cars have air filter boxes and transmission cases ? Look at this:
Now what if this fellow has to change his tyres and say go for a new set - what a nightmare !
What about wheel alignment ?
Wheel balancing ? Amount of weights ?
Does anyone recognise an officer and a gentleman right up ahead ?!!
All hydraulically controlled - imagine the chaos during an oil change !
You certainly can't have an operator with a vertigo problem here !
Wheels on wheels:
So what exactly is this behemoth ? Here it is:
That's right a Slag Pot Carrier. In steel plants it lifts huge vats or pots of slag (molten iron ore with impurities) and carries it from one point to set it at another processing point.
It does this by holding the pot in its pincers at the back and lifting it and moving about the plant:
There was no one around. Tried my darnest to spot the driver or an escort. No one, just no one around. Or else I would have started a conversation and got into the cab and looked around like many times before when I see such behemoths parked about ! But no such luck this time.
So a goodbye to the 'Parsi' from Germany. Admiral & I wished him a long and cheerful life in the steel plant at Meramandali, Orissa and we were on our way...
