DLSI (Mahindra) delivers 1st Mine-Protected-Vehicle

.....to the Jharkhand Police! Looks menacing enough to scare off enemies; of all the vehicles launched in India this year, I feel the MPV-1 has the most character.

High Points

DLSI (Mahindra) delivers 1st Mine-Protected-Vehicle-2.jpg

- Indigenously manufactured at Palwal, Faridabad. Production capacity of 100 MPV-1s per year.

- Developed specifically to meet the needs of the Indian armed & paramilitary forces.

- Made in India vehicle will offer a high level of protection at a cost effective price.

- DLSI to train drivers & mechanics to ensure optimum use.

- DLSI is a joint venture enterprise between Mahindra & Mahindra (74%) and global defense & security company BAE Systems (26%).

- Built with technology and product capability transfer from BAE Systems in South Africa, the MPV-I combines excellent Ballistic and Blast Protection capabilities. Built on the Ural Chassis, it incorporates a 'V' shaped mono hull chassis which directs the force of the blast away from the occupants.

- Drivetrain is a 6x6, and can carry an entire operational team making it ideally suited for anti-terrorist and anti-Naxal operations.

Massive ! And have to agree with you on this one having Character. The design & looks are actually good- and feels very un-Mahindra

Were you able to get any other details on this ?

Thats mean. But for the police department? Hell even the military should consider themselves lucky on having such a vehicle.

They probably face the most amount of land mines out of any other police dept/paramiltary/army in India so it does make sense.

I am impressed by the sheer size of this thing. This is some seriously cool machinery!

Now thats a behemoth. Looks almost as big as the Paramount Marauder. The over all finish looks great, especially in the first picture, unlike their earlier attempts at a defense vehicle, which looked very crude. Whatever happened to the Mahindra Axe?

Amazing! Few things i noticed.

Where are the doors?
there are 2 pairs of ORVM's !
the two vehicles seems to be different variants with different positioning of the air intakes.
the engine seems to be massive-any details?

Just one word comes to mind: Humongous !!! This can very well be used for Indian ARMY as well.

Thank god Mahindra didn't put ugly looking teeth - grill.

@GTO: Any idea on specifications?

Re: DLSI (Mahindra) delivers 1st Mine-Protected-Vehicle

Nice dig GTO! This would be easily one of the most neatly dressed vehicles if it happens to find a place in the Armed forces. Definitely an odd man out, standing amongst the shabbily dressed Nissan Jonga's, Three-ton's, One-ton's and Tatra's.

Quality stuff from Mahindra. Some more info here DLSI (A Mahindra- BAE Systems Company)

Re: DLSI (Mahindra) delivers 1st Mine-Protected-Vehicle

The two pics are of slightly different vehicles. The first one could be the international version, by BAe. The second one is the desi version. Note the bonnet & the mud-guards for a start.

@TOR, the air intakes looked same - atleast the one on the side is. The desi version seems to have a second intake for the engine.

The doors- definitely at the rear & top. Wont be surprised to find one downwards, through the floor of the main cabin. But trying to find where is the entrance to the cabin.

Re: DLSI (Mahindra) delivers 1st Mine-Protected-Vehicle

My God! That is one massive brute. I was taken aback by its sheer size in the second pic. Was not ready for it. It scores big on the very first requirement, i.e. Intimidation!

MPV-1, nice name by the way. Any idea on the numbers? I am sure the engine inside will not be out of place in a ship. Wow! Nice work, Defense Land Systems India.

Doors should be at the Top or Rear. Its a Blast Protection vehicle, so cannot be in the belly. Is that lid on top (in the first pic) a clue? Or is it a dish of some kind for data transfer?

Wow what a beast. Should give a mileage of 2-3 kmpl ! Really a specialized vehicle hence a production of 100 units seems to be in order.

Looks quite an army by itself. Should be good for the borders especially in dessert and up north as the army faces tremendous perils there. Looks good enough to give heart attack if one sees marching towards self. OT "If Looks Could Kill, This Would Be A Terminator"
