Mumbai's red buses (AL) to cruise in Dhaka!

Mumbai’s big red buses to cruise on Dhaka streets

Mumbai's red buses (AL) to cruise in Dhaka!-n8_3a.jpg

Quote:
As many as 50 Indian double-decker buses will soon run on the streets of Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, and in Chittagong city, a media report said on Monday.

The buses were manufactured in Mumbai and sent to Bangladesh by road. The new buses arrived in Dhaka over the last couple of months and The Daily Star reported that these could have been on the roads much earlier had there been no dilemma over who would inaugurate the buses.

It's high time that we get better and affordable AC buses. I do not mind paying 106 bucks daily when I board the kinglong; however, not many can do so but they would want to.

I am totally with you on this. We deserve better buses.

By the by Dhaka is a very matured and developed country (infrastructure wise) compared to india.

Which firm in Mumbai is building these bodies or is it that AL has a unit there?

Better and affordable - I can definately say we have a service is better and affordable than BEST on certain routes atleast, example CBD belapur - Sion/dadar - NMMT Volvo.

In comparision to other city bus services, the ticket rates are on par for BEST.

Noticed that CNG tanks are stored on the roof in King long buses!

At this juncture, though off topic, it would be pertinent to take a close look at the history of Ashok Leyland which started off as Ashok Motors with the assembling of Austin A40 cars in 1948/49.
Try this link History | Ashok Leyland

I find the BEST AC fares grossly high for what they offer.

All CNG low floor buses (Kinglong, Tata Marcopolo, Ashok Leyland, Volvo) have CNG tanks on the roof itself. There is nothing wrong in it.

I was refering to survey called Parihar which surveyed everything related to bus services in 5 cities ie delhi, mumbai, chennai, banglore and pune, as per that ticket rates are on par in comparision with other city bus services.

Visit pune someday, you will be shocked at the ticket rates vis-a-vis the service offered, which is one of the major reason why this is the 2 wheeler capital in india.

I was shocked to see CNG tanks on rooftop exposed to elements, they can think of placing them below the row of seats to ensure lower Centre of Gravity.

Yes I agree that compared to most other cities, BEST is much better.

And as for the tanks, I don't think there would be enough space for them below the floor in low floor buses.

The front glass on top floor does not open which robs the people seating at front on top floor from lot of fun IMO

again but for the last time - Just a thought, since i do not know if this can be practically implemented - the seats in a low floor bus can be elevated and the tanks kept underneath the seats, rest of the floor of the low floor bus can be kept - Low floor this way.
