Tata Motors' Dharwad Factory starts rolling out the ACE Zip & Magic IRIS

Tata Motors’ Dharwad plant for small commercial vehicles is now operational and has begun to produce the Tata ACE Zip and the Tata Magic IRIS.

Established with an investment of over Rs. 900 crores, the plant spans across an area of 405 acres. The plant has been constructed as per the norms specified by Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). It has built-in flexibilities to assemble large numbers and different variants in mixed mode production. The plant has been recommended for ISO 14001, Environment Management System Standard.

The capacity of the plant, to begin with, is 90,000 units per year.

The plant has already directly employed 350 individuals. The recruitment exercise covered about 76 ITIs in Karnataka.

About time too. Pant Nagar and Pimpri plants were anyways working way beyond their capacities. Also the current scenario doesn't seem to favor pcbu's, so they need to sell as many varieties of Ace as possible and cash in.

Insider information on Nano Plant. The scene is bad. Only 2 shifts operational, and that too not in full swing. Too bad for such a niche product.

Not sure if this is the same plant in Dharwad where excavator equipments and some bus body work was going on. Have seen this plant in the outskirts of Dharwad on the byepass road and if this is only a CKD assembly or manufacturing as well given that it is not all that far from Maharastra where the components can be transported quickly on the NH.

If that is the case then it seems like they have used the free parcels of land that they had acquired earlier for a new assembly line. Good for the economy of the twin cities as it bringing some fresh employment opportunities for the otherwise neglected hub of North Karnataka!

Yes, this is at the same location. They had land reserve of around 600+ acres and TM construction equipment subsidiary had taken around 117 acres. They also have Tata-Marcopolo plant there.

TATA considered same location for Nano plant in the past but it did not work out
