Re: Maruti Suzuki's mini pick up truck plans MSIL is likely to launch the Carry-based mini truck by Jan-2015. It will be produced in the company's Gurgaon plant instead of a new plant in Gujarat which is now expected to start production in 2016-17.
Excerpts from http://www.livemint.com/Companies/F5...-Jan-2015.html Quote:
By advancing the introduction of the mini-truck, Maruti hopes it will be able to catch up with the more-established companies in the segment.
“We want to encash the existing and future potential in the mini-truck segment without losing any time,” said a person directly involved in the matter.
This will be sold as commercial goods carrier with carrying capacity not exceeding 2 tonnes. Maruti does not plan to replicate the same as a passenger carrier, even though Tata Motors’s Iris, a passenger carrier in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment, has been permitted to be sold as a passenger vehicle as well.
“Assembly of a completely new transmission has begun,” said another person familiar with the matter. “Pre-production trials and assembly sampling of at least 100 units should begin in a few months.”

The new product will be available with two engines—an 800cc diesel engine and a 1,200cc compressed natural gas (CNG) engine. The diesel engine will be Suzuki’s first ever and is being developed together by Maruti Suzuki and Suzuki Motor.
