The ambulance version of the Extreme MUV is priced between 6.15 and 6.58 lakh rupees, ex-showroom Delhi. The ambulance variant is expected to be available across India from October 2013. The ambulance version of the Extreme MUV is available with two 2 turbo diesel engines: a 2 liter direct injection (DI) motor and a 2 liter common rail direct injection (CRDI) motor.

The DI engine outputs 100 Bhp-240 Nm while the CRDI engine outputs 120 Bhp-270 Nm. Both engines drive the rear wheels of the MUV by means of a 5 speed manual gearbox. The ambulance variant of the ICML Extreme is capable of hitting a top speed of 165 Kph, making it the fastest vehicle in its segment.

The ambulance comes equipped with air conditioning, a stretcher, revolving light, hook for glucose bottle, oxygen cylinder holder, water dispenser holder and a medical box.

ICML also sells the Extreme MUV in passenger carrying applications. Three other variants of the MUV are on sale in India, in LD, VD and SD models. These MUV variants offer seating capacities for 7-10 adults. The MUVs come with a range of features, from air conditioning vents for all three rows of seats to a DVD player with LCD screen. The MUVs built by ICML are aimed at both the cab operator as well as the family MUV buyer.

I am not too sure if they would want to push this Ambulance to such speeds. Or is that line added to scare others by indirectly saying that, 'Hey, I don't have a great braking system, better make way for me or kiss good bye to your posterior'?

A vehicle with such a high GC being driven at high speeds is danger lurking on the corners.

No one will. It's just ICML's way of highlighting the power on tap; 120 BHP is rather good for this class of vehicle!

We definitely need new age Ambulances with some sane drivers. The present ambulance fleets are not technologically advanced. Happened to use an ambulance recently and it was awfully smelly and unkept. It was a herculean effort to steer the ambulance in tight spots in the absence of power steering.

Why is Power steering opted out of non AC ambulance?

Agree wholeheartedly ! We have unfortunately had to use a coupe of them here as well and they are horrible , forget being in them some of them are mechanically not sound . What they also need to do is get proper drivers , these guys sometimes dont wear belts etc thanks to having a big light on top!!

Re: ICML Extreme Ambulance launched @ 6.15 lakhs

The EMRI/108 ambulances are much better off than the ones run by some MLA and politicians here in Mumbai. Dont know about the equipment list in these, but a recent one had photos on the side right from madam, to yuvraj to the local partyworker (inconspicous as ever) how putting up these images/body graphics would help.
I had the opportunity to work with a team handling advertising for Force Motors. They supposively have a largest share in the segment. The ambulance and cargo vehicles had same configuration. I did give a feedback that, not only do the ambulances have to be equipped with the new age life saving stuff, but also good acceleration and braking. Saving a life speedily is more important than fuel efficiency. As all Indian cos. dont change things till they sell. Otherwise the vehicle even with out the legendary OM 616/7 engines were class leading.

I do not think that a GC of 170 mm is a very high GC. Nevertheless since we do not have specifically designated lanes for emergency vehicles ,no matter how fast your ambulance could drive ,at some point it does get caught in traffic.

We do have technologically advanced ambulances. Its the choice of the user which defines the ambulance usage .If one is ready to pay more one can get a very good ambulance. Please have a look at the ambulance which our hospital employs.Regrettably the Indian mindset still is dominated by the vague concept that ambulance service should come free or subsidized.

Not only the driver has to wear seat belts but the passengers do also need to wear them at all times.

Generally ambulances are ill equipped ,however if laws were made stringent we could see better ambulances in the future.
Generally a well equipped ambulance carries a host of equipment like a ventilator ,cardiac monitor ,Infusion pumps ,central oxygen ,central suction ,air , defibrillator ,a tracking device and host of other equipment including an ecg machine ,electric pump etc etc.

India has still a long way to go when it comes to emergency vehicles.

Unarguably thats a technologically advanced ambulance. How many of the Ambulance iusers can actually afford such a costly trip and that too at times when majority of the costs go into the medical expenses. I guess only the affluent can afford to pay an exorbitant price of utilizing such a services. Had the hospitals employing such ambulances provide them as free of cost for the patients being admitted, it will be a boon.
