Re: SML Isuzu launches XM series of trucks and buses

SML has clearly become the third player in the CV space along with Ashok Leyland and Tata Motors. With this range it has just cemented its position in this space.

However was under the understanding that SML is now owned by Volvo. Had seen a report on the modern manufacturing facilities producing the vehicles. Not sure if this is under the technology inputs from Volvo or Japanese. Would be interesting to see the bus models as well.

Eicher Motors is now Volvo-Eicher Commercial Vehicles, after Volvo bought the majority of shares in Eicher. SML is not owned by Volvo

SML is not the third player in CV.
The top 3 are as follows
Tata Motors
Ashok Leyland
Eicher

Also SML is not owned by Volvo. SML has partnerships with Sumitomo corp and Isuzu motors of Japan.
Of late, SML has been selling Isuzu's models in India.

Cementing is still long way. Eicher is the King of ICV's and followed by Tata.

Eicher Volvo is a 50:50 JV and Volvo is not majority partner.

Sumitomo is the majority stake owner in SML. Initially when Punjab tractors was there, they entered in technical assistance with Isuzu and later they offloaded the complete share to Sumitomo.
They currently sell products under, two brands - SML (all traditional products) and Isuzu (new age ones).

Re: SML Isuzu launches XM series of trucks and buses

Of course how can I forget Eicher . My bad I did confuse SML to it and yes Eicher is the third biggest of them all. Thanks ashley, silversteed, sreedharan for quickly pointing it out.

Also now remember had come across the Eicher plant info in our very own TBHP - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/commer...pithampur.html

Now coming back to SML, they now seem to have the range to compete with the top three right, except for the very heavy haulage / tractor type of trucks. A range comparison across these manufacturers would be a great idea.

What is the Isuzu connection in this venture? Do they provide engines? In which case it would be an interesting combination of a Mazda truck (maybe just the cab presently) with Isuzu engine!

Just curious - Who runs the Isuzu Motors in india ? Are they the same folks? because I recall their SUV's were being sold by a separate dealer network?

Update: Mitsubishi, apparently
