Escorts launches Anti Lift Tractors in India

Escorts Ltd. has announced the launch of a new category of tractors in India called Anti Lift Tractors (ALT) under its Powertrac range. Made specifically for commercial haulage operators, the tractors are available in two models - ALT 4000 and ALT 3500.

Most tractors easily lift their front wheels, which results in reduced or no steering. This endangers the safety of the driver and can result in damage to the vehicle leading to high maintenance costs.

In the Anti Lift Tractor, Escorts has used technology to shift the center of gravity and hitch point forward. The tractor has a hub-reduction transmission, increased wheelbase, heavy front axle, stiffener bars and plates and custom-designed front bumper weighing 85 kg. Additionally it is equipped with extra front lamps. The added weight at the front along with the other features keeps the front wheels grounded. This is ALT technology version 1.0, which Escorts is planning to extend further to newer versions 2.0 and 3.0 in the long run.

Other features available on the ALT range include haulage-special rear tyres, 4-coat yellow paint, oil brakes, and 20% bigger fuel tank.

The ALT 1.0 tractors come in 37 HP and 41 HP versions and are currently available in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar.

Interesting route taken by engineers to avoid lift. But it looks like it adds lot of weight to the tractor.

Isn't it simpler to make both front & rear wheels smaller & equal in size, and send all power to front wheels (or perhaps all 4 wheels)? After all, this tractor will mainly be used for hauling stuff on mud or tarmac roads.

Without a suspension to compress at the rear to some extent and weight pushing it down, not sure how much it will prevent the lift.
Looks good.

Scratching my head with the same question. Looks like sticking a piece of sticker over a scratched surface rather than repairing it. Shifting the CG point is valid and agreed, adding counter mass is something followed for a long while (by owners)

Other possible solution is to shift the tow hook point underneath, towards vehicle front. This should shift the CG point towards front without increasing the wheelbase (it has it's own demerit, but every problem should have a solution)

One solution was to have 4x4 and Escorts already launched 4X4 tractor : http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/commer...ml#post3587789

Escorts has also up with 4 equal wheels Tractor in form of imported Ferrari tractors, though in less horsepower range.

Escorts has lost market share mainly to Sonalika, Mahindra Swaraj. A few years ago, Escorts was next to M&M and ahead of Tafe. Now, Escort's position of No.3 is being threatened. Its nice to see such positive engineering efforts from Escorts in Tractor segment.

The base tractors taken be Escorts are already from relatively higher FE range. These additions in Anti Lift Tractor may add in weight, but would help end users it seems.
