Tata Motors testing Ace Mega LCV

Tata Motors has started testing a new variant of the Ace. A test mule of the LCV has been spotted near Pune.

The Ace Mega, as the new variant is known, sports black and yellow decals with "Mega" branding on the doors of its passenger cabin, black plastic wheel arches at the front and 14-inch wheels. There is also a Mega badge at the front, above the grille. It is rumoured that the Mega is using the same rear axle as the larger Super Ace, giving it a carrying capacity of 1 ton.

Powering the Ace Mega is a 798 cc, turbocharged diesel borrowed from the Ace Dicor TCIC. In the Ace Dicor, it produces around 40 bhp and 94 Nm of torque. For the Mega, Tata Motors could tune it to produce more torque to help the vehicle cope with the increased carrying capacity.

The Mega is expected to slot in at the top of the Ace range, but below the Super Ace.

It's the engine Tata had developed for the still-born Diesel Nano.
