Tata Motors launches its new Signa range of Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles. Offered in various configurations, Signa will target segments right from haulage to construction

Signa Series is a short form of Signature series.
On a broad scale Signa was a slight disappointment as there is almost no change in Cab excepting the interiors and front grills. The cab is still a fixed cab and isn't fully floating. Also there is no change in the mechanicals. Pricing will be around 2 to 3% higher on may even be matched on product to product basis and will henceforth be the legacy model for Tata range.
Tata calls the centre chrome bar as "Trust Bar" and will henceforth be found in all its range of Commercial vehicles. Tata wanted to communicate the Trust the customer have it on them through this. Quote:

..... So you can make out three versions of TATA trucks launched with the same 180 HP engine in the expo. Just thought i will share. |
Now the fight is between Polymer tanks and Aluminium tanks as many other manufacturers are moving towards polymer tanks as well. Quote:

There were two very good concepts which Tata have showcased. IMO they deserve much more attention than what was actually unenvied. Signa Series were already on last show but they haven't named it at that time. The mechanicals and BIW were completely same with the ongoing trucks. Unfortunately the two buses were positioned in a far corner of the stall and were kept open since start of the show. So most media's didn't give importance to it.
Starbus Hybrid:
Tata is pushing for more hybrids and this is a 400mm entry low floor CNG Hybrid bus. Though its a long way to go for Hybrids for Tata this was showcasing their capability. On a sidenote - A similar concept and a production version was showcased by Ashokleyland in 2010 Autoexpo as plugin and now they have come out with non plug in version as well.
Marcopolo Electric:
This is basically a electric verion of ICV ongoing buses. This is completely a concept with peripheral seating and flat floor that can be used as a feeder bus. The body is by Marcopolo and chassis is by Tata motors Quote:

The <tthp> style nomenclature (where tt is the GVW and hp is the power in bhp/10) is more like a standard across the heavyweights - Daimler, MAN, Kamaz, etc to add to our homegrown giants. |
Volvo Eicher - First two digits are the series name and next two digits are GVW. Pro 6025 means 6000 series and 25Tonner Quote:

There need not be direct relation between Aluminium tanks, Urea Tanks and Export Market. All this can be independently available but is a preferable combination. This product is E5 compliant and hence a SCR route was followed and hence an Urea tank. Also some markets ask for Aluminium tank and hence that was fitted. But as such Tata Prima isn't doing so much good on export market and export numbers are quite small as well and this is more for display.
The Purpose of moving away from steel tanks is to prevent corrosion and further the rust particles entering the sophisticated fuel systems and so Polymer tanks are also used for this purpose by few manufacturers.
