Terra Motors Y4Alfa e-rick & battery launched in India

Japanese two & three-wheeler manufacturer - Terra Motors, has announced the launch of the Y4Alfa e-rickshaw in India. This is a battery-powered vehicle, which can transport 5 people (4 passengers + 1 driver) and boasts of a range of 100 km on full charge. The e-rickshaw weighs 380 kg, is water resistant and priced close to Rs. 1.30 lakh.

The company also introduced its "Terra Battery" in the Indian market. Priced close to Rs. 27,000, the battery comes with a one-year warranty and has a life span of 18 months at the very minimum.

The company's target is to sell 30,000 units of the e-rickshaw and 20,000 batteries by the end of the fiscal year. It had invested Rs. 31 crore in a new manufacturing plant in Haryana, in 2015 (link to news article).

Is this all the formidable Japanese engineering has to show? This looks more like project by a college kid . May be there are college kids after all in Japan .

Terra Motors is very good at making claims - I'll believe them when they actually deliver. The factory was announced only in mid-2015? Is it ready already?

I wouldn't trust a manufacturer that doesn't even have an address on its website:

Nor a dealer network! They insist you CALL their landline to locate a dealer

By the way, whatever happened to their 160 kph motorcycle (related link)

Looks like a big SCAM to me. Caveat emptor

Re: Terra Motors Y4Alfa e-rick & battery launched in India

As per the news article from 2015 (see first post here) - this is a 1090 mm wide. Even if we were to allow for 40 mm for body shell for the sides, each person will get 350mm width of space. Are they trying to sell a primary-school-kids-only vehicle ?

This one's going to be narrower than 1,090 mm as it is a 5-seater (4+1), unlike the R6 which was a 7-seater (6+1). Although, in terms of per passenger width, it must be pretty much on par or even lesser. The specs for the Y4Alfa aren't available yet.

Is this piece of news coming directly from 1980s?
Bajaj RE Rickshaws these days are much more modern that their previous generations.
Horrible designs are one reason why anything electric is not picking up in auto-mobile field, apart from the usual battery concerns.

There are desi versions of this e-contraption already in use in NCR region. Pretty nifty for last-mile connectivity I must say. Effective enough that the cycle rickshaw union folks tried to get them banned for infringing on their turf.
