Air India-Vistara merger advances pending regulatory nods

https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/India...41e3ebdc&ei=31

https://www.news18.com/business/air-...s-8786909.html

The proposed merger between Air India and Vistara is underway, and the carrier is awaiting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and other regulatory approvals. When completed, it will give SIA (Singapore Airlines) a 25.1 percent stake in an enlarged Air India Group. The merger is expected to be completed by mid-2025.

As I wrote earlier Air India in its present form cannot rise up to the standards of Vistara and there is a real risk that Vistara’s service (under the Air India flag) will corrode down significantly.

It has been two years since the Air India privatization and over 1.5 years since Tata's got firmly in the saddle. It is time Air India started making visible moves to increase their routes + make a better service stand out + get their old aircraft repaired and refitted with new interiors + retrained their staff. So much to do so little done.

DGCA issues notice to Air India after international flight delayed by over 24 hrs.

Quote:
The DGCA in its notice mentioned the inordinate delay of two international flights – AI 183 from Delhi to San Francisco on May 30 and AI 179 from Mumbai to San Francisco on May 24
Quote:
An Air India flight from Delhi that was to leave for San Francisco on Thursday was delayed by over 24 hours, and passengers were allegedly made to board the flight and sit without any air conditioning, due to which some of them fainted.
Quote:
the flight, which was originally scheduled to take off at 3:20pm on Thursday from Delhi, will now take off at 7pm on Friday.
According to the show cause notice, both flights were delayed and passengers were put in discomfort due to insufficient cooling in the cabin.

Further, it said that repeated incidents of passengers being put to discomfort by Air India in violation of DGCA norms have come to the notice of the regulator.

Air India PR team is very solid. They know how to be in news all the time. Of course for wrong reasons.

No AC, Passengers Faint, Dinner On Ramp: Air India Delhi-San Francisco Flight Delayed By 20 Hours

During this delay, a few passengers fainted due to lack of proper air conditioning in the cabin after which they were made to deboard the plane.

Re: Air India Divestment - Tata Sons completes acquisition

Why cant airports create a "containment" zone precisely for these reasons ? Why make passengers wait inside the plane for more than 1 hour even ? How difficult would it be to create a space in the terminals for 3-400 pax or say 550 pax at maximum (considering an A380). Smaller airports can create equivalents.

I feel DGCA should mandate airlines to provide exact cause rather than just “operational reasons”.
I know how one’s blood boils on hearing this 2-word explanation from airline staff when they are looking at a potential loss varying from thousands to lakhs, plus the emotional drain.

This thread started off with so much optimism and hope that our dear maharaja would see better times post the takeover by the TATA group. Sad to see that nothing posted over the past few months, indicate things have changed for the better.

Re: Air India Divestment - Tata Sons completes acquisition

Have had really bad experience with Air India (domestic and international circuit). In case of domestic flight, the flight took off after 4 hours from DEL to BOM, it was landed on old terminal, took more than almost 2 hours for us to get luggage.

In case of international flight BOM to DXB, the flight took off after 8 hours but then was routed back to BOM. No one from Air India was there to help the passengers and to answer their questions. I had to wait at the airport for almost 16 hours to flight to DXB (the flight which is less than/around 3.5 hours)!

I am not questioning AI in any of these events as it can happen with any other airlines as well, but the issue has been of accepting the issue and addressing the same. AI seems to have lost SOPs or seems to be disinterested which the whole process.

I may still fly AI in future since we don't have real alternatives (in domestic sector), but they aren't the preferred carrier by a margin!
