Ashok Leyland 'Innoline' inline fuel pump for BS-IV engines

Ashok Leyland has introduced Innoline - an inline fuel pump for BS-IV engines in India. It is a mechanical fuel pump, which is claimed to deliver the same kind of performance and efficiency as Intelligent Exhaust Gas Recirculation (iEGR) technology.

Inline fuel pumps are very common in India and preferred by drivers and mechanics as they are less complex and easier to repair. Innoline does not require AdBlue (Urea), which is claimed to make engine maintenance simpler and reduce operating costs.

According to Ashok Leyland, it is the only manufacturer in the world to offer an inline fuel pump for BS-IV / Euro4 engine that has been certified by the ARAI. Additionally, the company claims that this pump can be upgraded to be used on BS-VI engines as well.

Could not understand.

The fuel pump delivers the fuel in regulated quantity per injection. How does it have direct control over combustion, emission and efficiency? These will be controlled by timing, injector, combustion chamber geometry etc.

Older engines used a mechanical diesel pump with much lower pressures. Newer emission norms made that technology obselete since the newer norms could not be met with these older mechanical pumps. Then came the adblue solution which was basically a tank of urea that was sprayed in to exhaust fumes to neutralize the emissions. In Parallel we have CRDI fuel systems also for smaller engines.

Now from what I could gather, Ashok Leyland seems to have developed a version of the mechanical pump that adheres to the newer emission norms without either using the adblue or CRDI pumps. This would be really good as maintenance costs and electronics would be minimal and that's very important for the commercial truck market. Easily repairable and trouble free operation.

Ok, so it looks that all the combustion parameters will be like CRDI but to generate high pressure (like in CRDI), they use in line pump. Since the inline pump can also do the fuel metering, no solenoids or piezoelectric injectors will be required.

Sounds good.

Looks something like that to me. Can't say for sure till they share more technical details. It does seem to be a good solution nevertheless. Long term reliability will tell us how good it is actually. However this is available only for a specific engine model for now. It would be good to see if this can be made available for other diesel engines as well.

iEGR doesn't require AdBlue, which is one of the biggest advantages of the iEGR/EGR systems. Its the SCR system that requires AdBlue.

Would like to know more. Much more.
EGR normally tackles NOx. The jerk pumps shortcomings were many, starting with PM.

Does this mean ALL is no longer dependent on Mico / Bosch or CAV for fuel injection?

That is good.

How does this couple with the engine and its timing? Old style markings on the flywheel to be synced manually?

They used to have "tension plate" near the camshaft belt on front of the 370 engine, which was a very weak point.
