UAE company envisions Mumbai-Fujairah underwater rail line

Quote:
A United Arab Emirates (UAE) company is envisioning laying an underwater rail line between Fujairah and the coastal city of Mumbai in India in the near future.

"This is a concept. We plan to connect Indian city of Mumbai with Fujairah through ultra-speed floating trains. The project aims to boost bilateral trade. There will be an export of oil to India from Fujairah port and import of excess water from Narmada River, north of Mumbai. In addition, other GCC partners can also improve export and import," Abdulla Alshehhi, the founder-owner of the National Advisor Bureau Limited consultancy firm said at the UAE-India Conclave which was recently held in Abu Dhabi.

Too fantastic a project if you ask me, but that someone is willing to spend money on a feasibility study is mind boggling.

Re: UAE company envisions Mumbai-Fujairah underwater rail line

Let's do some quick primary school math:

Eurotunnel between UK/France is 50 kms long and cost $11 billion (after accounting for inflation). Distance between UAE and Mumbai is 2000 km. How much will this project cost, assuming the ocean geology is similar?

Re: UAE company envisions Mumbai-Fujairah underwater rail line

I am all for the unbridled thinking that makes one dream such things
They are looking for fresh water here ? Not sure about the technical aspects here. They are going to fill some underground tunnel with Narmada water and have floating trains running over that ?
We are still thinking about linking rivers and this is some dreaming !
