US-Bangla Bombardier crash at Kathmandu (12th March 2018)

On 12th March 2018, a US-Bangla Bombardier Dash8 Q400 flight no. 211 crashed while on approach to the Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu. A new video of CCTV footage was uploaded on 5th March 2019 that shows how it happened.

Details of the crash - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/US-B...11?wprov=sfla1

Mods - I searched for this particular accident involving US-Bangla 211 crash but couldn't find any mention. Please merge it with an existing thread if required.

Question for pilots on the forum.

This relates to a recent incident of a Bhopal Surat Q400 overshooting the runway when landing in heavy rain.

How is is possible that a Q400 could not come to a full stop on a runway long enough for 737/320 jets? Does it mean the aircraft touched down way beyond the marked touch down zone ?

The youtu.be link is broken. IMHO without it the thread is meaningless.

Question by vigsom is not linked.

I'm a follower of ATC and pilot conversation videos on YouTube. Here is a video on the same aircraft.

Quote:
A commission appointed by the Government of Nepal investigated the accident and issued a report that concluded that the probable cause of the crash was pilot disorientation and a loss of situational awareness on the part of the pilots. The report was criticized by the airline and by the Bangladeshi representative to the commission, who felt that the air traffic controllers at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu had not done their job properly and could have prevented the accident.

Apparently the earlier link was removed from YouTube. Here is another link with same video.

There are 7 different angles to it. I'm also attaching a few screenshots to show how close it was to terminal building.

This crash was a combination of confused and almost contradictory instructions from the ATC and action by the Capt that was short on common sense and application of mind. Nepal is notorious for weak ATC and very poor ground procedures and maintenance standards.

The aircraft most probably suffered aquaplanning - ie skidding on the water a little bit like a water skier. I haven't followed this case, this is just my guess.
