Victoria buggies from Mumbai's colonial past are set to make a comeback, except that this time, horses are being replaced with lithium-ion batteries.



According to a media report, Ketan Kadam's UBO Ridez has partnered with model and actor Dino Morea to introduce e-Victorias on the old route in South Mumbai from September 1, 2019.



The electric carriages are modelled around the horse-drawn Victoria buggies that were banned under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. These are said to be powered by 60 volt lithium-ion batteries and are claimed to have a top speed of 20 km/h. The carriages will be equipped with Bluetooth speakers and GPS-triggered audio tour with multiple language options.

The first 40 e-Victorias will operate at tourist locations like Nariman Point, Gateway of India and Chowpatty. The rides are expected to cost between Rs. 300-500 for five people. The company will offer free rides on the first 2 days after launch.
