Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Chennai-based Tractor and Farm Equipment Ltd (TAFE), John Deere and former PTL Managing Director Yash Mahajan with the support of private equity firms have placed bids for the acquisition of the 43.5 per cent stake in Punjab Tractors (PTL).

Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors and M&M might be front-runners, considering their aggression in expanding operations through inorganic route.
