Volvo to set up bus body-building unit in Karnataka

Sweden-based bus manufacturer Volvo has opted for Bangalore for setting up its proposed bus body-building unit.

Volvo was earlier outsourcing the bodybuilding in India to a Bangalore-based company, Jaico Automobiles (Azad Group). While engine parts and chassis are manufactured in Sweden, bodybuilding was done in the outsourcing unit.

However, there was a spate of complaints on defects in structural design, defective air-conditioning against the buses. Following the complaints, the company decided to set up its own bus body-building unit in the country.

Volvo opted for Karnataka as it already has a strong infrastructure for bodybuilding units.

Excellent, from what I read on this thread, their reputation was taking a beating due to shoddy bus body building.

According to what I heard, even the new body building facility is being setup as a joint operation between Azad group.
Is it going to effect the quality of the coaches again?

What this also means is that indirectly volvo accepts the fact that there were problems in the first place, are our coach builders not capable enough to meet global standards?
