BYD evaluating B2B passenger EV segment in India

China-based EV maker BYD has completed 8 years in India. At present, BYD electric buses operate in over ten cities in India. These include Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kerala, and Manali. The company is now evaluating the B2B electric passenger vehicles segment.

BYD e6 electric MPVs have been testing in India for quite some time now. More recently, the previous generation e6 was spotted. This version of the BYD e6 uses a 120 hp electric motor. It is powered by an 80 kWh battery that is said to offer a maximum range of 400 km.

The company has also been testing the T3 electric cargo van in India. It is said to have a maximum range of 300 km, and the batteries can be recharged in 1.5 hours using a DC charger.

BYD's Indian subsidiary was set up in Chennai in 2007. In 2013, the company began to explore the local electric vehicle market, and the first pure electric bus arrived at our shores on August 20, 2013. Since then, the BYD K9 is being widely used on intra-city routes.

BYD India plans to launch B2B electric MPV.

Quote:
Given the rising demand for electric vehicles in the country, BYD is planning to launch its electric MPV. This will cater to the B2B segment in the country, thus supporting India to control its carbon footprint. Along with this BYD India will also continue to expand in other domains like energy storage, battery and electric passenger vehicles.

For electric buses, shouldnt we try what San-Fransisco has? Overhead wires that feed into the bus with a flexible stick contraption.

I know it sounds complicated and infra-heavy. But think about it. The bulk of the buses are going to be running in cities. This completely eliminates the need for charging. Most of the buses will ply during the day and can get power from a central solar station based out of the city itself.

Im a big fan of BEV cars and bikes but for trucks and buses, carrying around all that battery seems a bit much.

Finally a range which is practical and wont give you anxiety through out the day.
Don't know what on earth is TATA doing. Our govt will blindly favor Indian companies rather than Chinese ones if they make practical vehicles. Its not that TATA is not capable of doing it. Don't know what on earth are they waiting for.

BYD e6, the infamous chinese flammable taxis!

They were sold primarily as taxis in china with heavy government subsidies. This model gained notoriety for catching fire and killing the passengers within. BYD stopped selling these later and production finally stopped!

Bringing an old discontinued model to India's helps reduce costs, also few know about the car's reputation outside china. It's a smart business move by the chinese maker.

If this succeeds, expect more chinese EVs to be dumped into the Indian market. Imperative that the Govt. maintains high duties so that we don't end up being a dumping ground for excess chinese production capacity.

.
How many incidents of battery fire casualty were reported? All I could find was an article from 2012 in which the vehicle was involved in a high speed crash with Nissan GTR and caught fire killing everyone in the car. Also since BYD has been using LiFePO4 batteries, I doubt there could be too many battery fires unlike western and Korean vehicles which uses a more volatile battery chemistry.
BYD continued manufacturing the E6 models until 2020 and the new 2021 model with their Blade batteries were launched recently.
