Re: ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 successfully lands near the South pole of the Moon; the first country to do

What an achievement this is. ISRO, you are just fabulous!

Those tears in the eyes of Mr. K Sivan during the Chandrayan 2 failure are still fresh and I am sure this success will sooth him now.

Proud of the whole ecosystem of ISRO, tight budget, politics, challenges, failures.. heck, we can do it anyways.

We are on the moon now! India has arrived!

Re: ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 successfully lands near the South pole of the Moon; the first country to do

Congratulations ISRO.

But really annoyed by the poor camera director of DD not showing the last phase of descent live video from lander and the telemetry. They do not know what to show and what is important. Be it ISRO launches, Vayushakti live fire exercise, Navy fleet review, republic day parade, you name it. DD sucks at it.

Such a great achievement. Thanks to ISRO for giving us a lifetime memory.
We are the blessed generation to see India transforming.

OT - What are the Brits doing with all the money they took from us? Do you think they would have thought we will achieve this spectacle when they left us in a poor state?

A fantastic moment! I truly savored every second of it. On one side, we witnessed a successful landing, while on the other, an intense championship chess match unfolded. It truly was a fantastic day overall.

They need to complete health checks of the lander itself. After that they will look at pictures from the lander around the area and then decide to release the rover. Might be few hours as per friends at ISRO.

What an achievement!

The latest new as of now, is that the ramp has been lowered and rover is being deployed.

Superb achievement by all the team involved!

Re: ISRO's Chandrayaan-3 successfully lands near the South pole of the Moon; the first country to do

The life of the solar powered rover is said to be a single lunar day, till the sun sets.

Can someone who knows this stuff, comment on why that is so, and why the rover cannot be powered back on the next sunrise in 14 earth days? Would that not extend the science the rover can do and perform many more secondary experiments? Batteries could power critical/heating systems.

That approach would in fact setup a nice experimental cycle - 14 days of execution -> 14 days of result analysis + experiment design.

As far as I know, it is possible to power it up on the next lunar day. Both, lander and rover, have batteries for that.

But the electronics are not expected to survive the extremely cold lunar night. So ISRO is most likely playing it safe.

Weight. Battery. (additional) Solar panel. Every gram (me) has to be calculated, including any solar panel. Also, the temperature would have an impact. Plenty low temps where Chandrayaan 3 landed. Any battery exposed to ultra low/ultra high temps, malfunctions. If that had been feasible, I believe ISRO would NOT have neglected it. ISRO has more brain power than me. I salute that brain power that overcame every challenge and obstacle. I can only applaud and cheer them on. Smart brains.

Though NYT had apologised later for their article, India should never forget the way the West treated us and mocked our capabilities in the past.
