Suzuki Super Carry Mountain Trail Concept unveiled; A rugged off-road kei truck

Ahead of the upcoming 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon, Suzuki has unveiled a kei off-roader truck concept in its home market of Japan. Based on the latest generation of the Suzuki Super Carry, it is called the Mountain Trail Concept.

The new Suzuki Super Carry Mountain Trail concept is heavily modified and comes with a host of off-road-specific parts. This includes a diamond-plate front skid-plate, recovery hooks, an external roll cage, a light bar over the front windshield and tube doors. The Super Carry concept also features bucket seats inside, while there is also a spare tire carrier, a set of jerry cans and a breaker bar for any off-road tyre change at the back.

Details of the Super Carry Mountain Trail concept are scarce. Reports, however, do mention that it is powered by a tiny 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated 658cc engine, producing 50 BHP and 59.6 Nm.

Looks cool. Looks like something out of Cyberpunk 2077

The appearance certainly looks rugged and the paint job looks very utilitarian. The modifications are more essentials rather than cosmetics which is something I personally love to see. Especially that tough looking front underplate.

The power and torque figures seem dismal considering that this, if at all materialised will be used as an off roader/trail roader and especially utilised rough for carrying camping gear, outdoor equipment and of course, enthusiasts behind the wheel. Tiny naturally aspirated power and torque values seem like either wrong or hastily provided numbers.

And considering all the other modifications and the conceived use case, this just cannot do any justice without a 4x4 + Low transfer case system.

Another major fly in the ointment from my perspective is the unhealthy looking proportions. The CG seems too high with too narrow of a track supported on tiny wheels. Sure we're talking about only a concept but still the engineer's side of the brain doesn't want to sleep on it
