Sorry for going offtopic.

But the thread title fooled me into thinking that TATA sprang a surprise by launching a new 2.0l engine (either a turbo-petrol or a diesel0. Was not familiar with the Turbotronn badge.

Thanks for sharing. This post made me wonder because Tata produces so many CNG vehicles, which if I am not wrong are modified petrol engines, but still Tata does not have expertise when it comes to sophisticated petrol engines. Shouldn't there in-house team experts be able to come up with better products?

Their upcoming 1.2 and 1.5 petrols are a sophisticated as they come, all aluminium, Gasoline Direct Injection, Dual Cam phasing, variable geometry turbos, etc.. The 1.2 is supposed to debut with the Curvv.

Clickbait alert! LOL

I was really thinking they are going to venture into the FORD F-150 territory. Lol. Leave the thread title as is, do not add TRUCK in it, will see how many get an early 1st/apr.

PS - Happy to see homemaker evolve into reliable wordclass engine makers too. It is about time engines and drivetrains are exported from India.

The Fiat DDiS is the stunning example of how just an engine can power the world. There are so many commercial truck engines (google HINO) which are powering the world even now. Exporting a world class engine/&GB will be the epitome of Indian Automobile Engineering before EV takes over in future. How I wish to see such a day

Re: Tata Motors introduces 5-litre Turbotronn 2.0 Engine

Is there anything that goes into an ICE engine design that can stop it from being paired into a hybrid vehicle with electric power as an add-on? Unless used for defence applications, a purely ICE engine seems to be a waste of resources in this era.

Is this engine going to be retrofitted into existing older platforms or only going to be introduced with some new models of LCVs?

Sir sorry if that came out to be like that. I created the post in the commercial vehicle category. Should also have mentioned that it was for trucks.

Re: Tata Motors introduces 5-litre Turbotronn 2.0 Engine

I have brought a 35 tonne truck with this 2.0 engine. Mileage with load is yet to be checked. Empty truck fuel efficiency is 1 km/l above average which is quite impressive.
We have got 7 km/l in plains (Jamshedpur to coimbatore) and 5.5 km/l in hills (Coimbatore to Mangalore via Anthiyur)

That is very good for a 5000cc unit. Is this a downsized version of the 6.7L, Cummins they use in Signa / Prima or a new development?

Tata has developed two Turbotronn engines inhouse. A 3300cc unit and a 5000cc one.
3300cc Turbotronn unit in 12-19 tonne range.
5000cc Turbotronn unit in 19-42 tonne range.
5600cc Cummins unit in 19-42 tonne range.
