First Volvo 9600 Bus with a Fire Accident Prevention System

Remya Tours & Travels Private Ltd, a Trivandrum based Tours operator is now the proud owner of India's First Volvo 9600 B8R Single Axle with Fire Accident Prevention System (FAPS).

Brief on Fire Accident Prevention System (FAPS);
It is a system that requires installment of fire alarms and sprinkler systems in buses and has been made mandatory for school buses by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The deadline for its adoption has been set as October 1, 2023.

It involves fire detection modules, fire alarm system and fire supressants like sprinklers as we have seen in buildings, alongside the pressured water system and pumps to deliver pressurised water during a fire emergency.

Re: First Volvo 9600 Bus with a Fire Accident Prevention System

This is a nice idea and I'm glad an operator has fitted this system voluntarily. But the photos only show the cabin features. Most fires usually start around the engine and usually involve oil or fuel. I am interested in seeing what's fitted in the engine bay. Would the bus owner share those details?

Oil or fuel fires can't be easily extinguished with plain water - foam is needed for quick and effective extinguishing. Does this system have separate tanks with a different medium just for the engine bay?
