A potential solution exists in Tier 1 cities: Blusmart cabs where all rides are prebooked. In fact, without it's surgery pricing or cancellations it has become a boon in some cities. I've seen some cases where people book these EV cabs for their parents to pick up their kids from school.

Taking your own example, if you planned to be at said wedding for say 2 hours, you could just schedule the return cab accordingly. I know Blusmart comes with its own setbacks like poor penetration and limited drivers in some slots, but having used their service, I'm a little happier with the result than Ola and Uber. Not that Ola and Uber don't allow ride scheduling, but just that at times, like for my office commute of 5 km, a reserved Uber is Rs. 300+ while a Blusmart is Rs. 150.

Plus I tried this a few times and every time after finding out that I had more than 1 destination to go to and then return back home as well, the driver just canceled. Probably he figured, he can earn more money doing 3-4 trips in the time it would take to get me to couple of destinations (I was doing a Bangalore Craft Beer Crawl) and then back home. Finally ended up booking separate rides at a much higher cost.

Discussion on a problem whose solution already exist.
My parents have been using uber/ola rentals for years now. They use it for shopping and multiple stops and then drop back to home.
Even I use rentals of ola/uber to got to places where parkings are difficult to find and i have short stops, like a bank visit or a passport office visit.

All kinds of cars are available for rentals.
