BEST Buses

Hi All....well this is my first thread...
I have been a BEST fan all my life because they have been diff and pioneers in Indian Transport Buses

I have observed something about the CNG buses in Mumbai.

They have 2 variants TATA and Leyland.

What i have observed is all CNG buses coming out of Anik Bus depot have been TATA(that is the new ones)
All CNG buses that have been coming out from Santacruz depot have been Leyland.

I dunno whts the logic or if there is any logic as i stated before just an bservation.
Also any one had a chance to see the new KingLong buses to ply between dadar and thane.

there are 2 types of CNG BUSES plyin in mumbai
1. regular length
2. midi length

1. regular length buses are stationed in anik, prateeksha ngr. and santacruz depots.

as per my observation, buses from anik and prateeksha nagar are a mix of tata and leyland cng buses while santacruz has only leyland cng buses.

anik has a series of buses mostly of MHO1LA
prateeksha nagar AND santacruz hAVE buses of MHO1L82**, 84**,87** AND SOME IN 98** AND 99**. and newer ones in MHO1LA series also.

2. midi length CNG BUSES are recently introduced some months ago and they are stationed in anik, prateeksha nagar, mumbai central, dharavi depots. they are shorter in length and have only one door on the left hand side. these are only leyland.

Logistically it is easier to maintain one particular type of bus at a depot.

But what went wrong for Leyland in BEST? From being a 100% AL fleet, why did they convert to Tata - looks like that in next 2 years, there will be hardly any AL left.

I saw a King Long near Byculla, did not see the route details. The Dadar-Thane King Long is definitely not plying, drive that route daily, never seen one.

Hi FX it was a good explaination but what i have observed is the santacruz depots too have the mh-01 LA series and they r regular length buses...i think TATA is one up on the low floor buses ...i saw them in delhi on my visit on friday they r amazing .....i think AL needs to upgrade their designs n that....being an AL client BEST should have been the launch customer for LUXURA on their AC bs routes for trial...i m surprised they arent

Hah! This used to be my favorite past time in childhood.
I still remember the bus depots that had TATAs & ASHOK LEYLANDs as their preferred buses.
And the depots belong to various districts/ tehsils of :

PUNJAB ROADWAYS:
TATAs - Amritsar, Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Nangal......
LEYLANDs - Batala, Jullundhur, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Ferozepur, Ropar....

P.R.T.C ( PEPSU road transport corporation)
TATAs - Patiala, Sangrur.....
LEYLANDs - Bhatinda,Muktsar....

H.R.T.C ( Himachal road transport corporation)
TATAs - Pathankot, Chamba, Dharmsala,Baijnath....earlier most of depots were having TATA buses
LEYLANDs - Una, Sarkaghat...

C.T.U ( Chandigarh transport corporation), they started using VIKING & CHEETAH models of ASHOK LEYLAND in 80s

HARYANA ROADWAYS:
TATAs - Ambala, Karnal, Chandigarh, Yamunanagar....
LEYLANDs - Faridabad, Gurgaon, Rewari, Hisar, Sirsa....

& D.T.C ( now forgotton somewhat )
