Google has added trains option to 'Google Transit'. Check out here: http://www.google.com/transit

Irctc can never improve. My struggle to book a tatkal ticket with them continues. As usual payment deducted but booking failed at last moment and it showed time out.

IRCTC can improve only when they are able to curb the touts/agent menace. As long as the illegal website flourish which hack into the IRCTC web site for bulk bookings, there is no respite for Mango man.

There was a news recently where a software engineer was allegedly caught with Rs 3L worth of tickets legally booked on the IRCTC website. This shows that some official are hands in gloves with the firms or agents.:Frustrati:Frustrati

It is extremely frustrating. The recent 4 months booking in advance has further hampered the ability of a person to travel by rail. It is very tough to plan out so much in advance and as a result of it now even 2 months before the travel date, one can see most good trains showing waitlisting.:Frustrati

IRCTC is down since 30 mins - Yes, the site is down and out when people book Tatkal Tickets. I have been trying to book a ticket for my domestic help - A normal ticket costs 600 - which had gone upto 1800 in Premium Tatkal :Frustrati

And you have this screen...

Yesterday evening I booked a Tatkal WL7 ticket for today's Shatabdi from QLN to ERS. When I checked today morning (after chart preparation), the status was showing as WL3.

Since the WL ticket did not get confirmed by chart-preparation time, it will get auto-cancelled, right ? I was expecting status in IRCTC to show as "Cancelled", which was not the case.

Or should I file a TDR for this ticket ?

^^^Tried to file a TDR and got the following error message, which clarified my doubt :
<< Chart prepared for the train and all passengers in waitlist status shall be auto Cancelled. TDR filing is not required.>>>

I have built up 2 user accounts at irctc over the years but because of lack of activity, both are now deactivated/blocked. The biggest problem is that one cannot reuse the mobile no for creating a new account.

On 25.5.2015, I wanted to book a ticket and so tried to login thru my 2013-14 account. Obviously it was blacklisted. Tried creating a new account but my old email and phone no cannot be reused. One can create a new email a/c for irctc but getting a new mobile connection is a bit too much.

Anyway, I used by Bhabhi's account. Could not book between 8-12 Noon, but booking process was smooth at 1PM and I got a confirmed ticket. Could be the train or the date of journey (7th June).

I think, you can write to support explaining the same, and have them to enable one of the accounts. Quite a few people did have more than one account to overcome the limitations on the number of tickets booked. Since any number of emails can be created, they tried using the mobile.

Yes, writing to IRCTC-support will help re-enable your account. I know colleagues who have got it done this way.

Thanks for the tip. Will keep this in mind. Anyway I buy perhaps once a year and for that my Bhabhi's account will suffice.

Captcha is normally used to keep bots at bay, but our IRCTC seems to use it to only make life tough for humans.
Instead of having it only once during the booking process (maybe while entering login info), they also have it again later in the booking process, which seems unnecessary.

As if this were not enough, they have a more complicated (to decipher for humans themselves) Captcha during the forenoon session and a simpler one in the post-noon session - see screen shots below. Wonder what the intention is ? To delay the Tatkal booking process for those logging in from the web ?

When a train is cancelled by the railways, shouldn't your ticket get auto cancelled and the amount refunded? I was told by them that I need to file a TDR for that.

Simple, to make as difficult as possible to book a ticket and to book as less number of tickets as possible.

Probably you are right. I was under the same impression and did not file the TDR when my train was cancelled. When finally I did, a notification after about 2-3 months came in stating that I did not file the TDR within 72 hours of the departure!
