Re: Intercity Buses operated by various private travels and STUs

Seems the A/C private bus trend is catching on in central Kerala too. Just saw a brand new A/C bus with slave engine belonging to Peter travels. They got super expresses running between Kottayam and Wayanad.

Re: Intercity Buses operated by various private travels and STUs

Where are these "Kizhakkan" buses parked in Kottayam?

Regarding the a/c trend, I guess that a night service with a/c gives almost same FE as a day time service with all those stops and braking for the typical Kerala Roads. The old gen buses we operated several years back did not give more than 2 KMPL in what was then city service. I doubt even today, the FS / LSFP / FP buses operating day time give more than 3 - 3.5 KMPL. OTOH, old gen contract carriages do give 4+ KMPL, and I guess the night service buses will give that kind of FE.

So, with a/c, FE at 3.5 or even 3 KMPL is still break even.

U mean at the start of their journey? Or do you mean after their run?

All Kottayam - Ernakulam buses start from Nagambadam bus stand I guess. I don't know where these night services park during day time.

Also, some buses are parked near "Kodimatha"

One of them is parked at a petrol pump near my home and can be seen doing permit runs between Kottayam-Mundakayam during the daytime(Jacobs). Peters are based in Kothanalloor and the A/C bus I saw was probably returning to the yard after registration formalities. Peters has some A/C tour buses too. But the one I saw was definitely a stage carriage since it had cut outs for the destination board at the back and the body looked like a Kondody(Tour buses are Prakash-built). Most of these buses to the north from Kottayam sport Karur bodies.

I had heard from an executive of a reputed Automobile AC Manufacturer that one Kottayam based operator was building an AC bus, which is to run on the Kottayam-Ernakulam route. May be this is the bus.

Great news if its true. Though I wonder why Peters would get in this route. Stiff competition there. They must've bought a permit. Maybe from Manchakkattil guys. One of their buses just lies idle at the pump now.

Anybody know how much is the travel time from Kottayam to Nedumkandam by bus? Which route is fastest - NH or Vagamon? Which bus will reach Nedumkandam by 10.30 in the morning?

Re: Intercity Buses operated by various private travels and STUs

IIRC, Peters does have 3/4 buses on Kottayam Ekm rout - they depart sometime between 830 and 9.30 AM, IIRC.

And, golly, a/c buses on KTYM - Immobility hub route?? Boy!!! I am gonna surrender that train season ticket!!!!

Wait - what about suspension?? The roads do get nasty.

Ashok Leyland bags Delhi contract

Commercial vehicle maker, Ashok Leyland has has secured an order to supply 700 CNG buses to be operated by private operators for public transport in New Delhi. The company has already supplied 50 units of such BS4 compliant CNG buses, which were flagged off on Monday by state chief minister, Sheila Dikshit.

“These front-engine, semi-low floor buses will have seating capacity in the range of 45-60 per bus and will be operated by the private people,” Vinod K Dasari, managing director, Ashok Leyland told Financial Chronicle.

These fully built buses are being manufactured at Ashok Leyland’s Alwar plant in Rajasthan and the company expects to execute the order in a phased manner. While the company didn’t disclose the value of the order, the cost of each bus in estimated at Rs 30-35 lakh, according to a top company official.

Ashok Leyland has bagged the contract from AB Grain, which has been awarded the contract to run semi low floor buses in clusters 3, 4 and 5 by the Delhi government this

The Hinduja flagship has been participating in the fleet upgrdation programmes of Delhi government. It’s already introduced its CNG buses and ultra low entry (ULE) models for public transport in the city. “The semi-low floor buses we are offering are tailor-made to the specific requirements of DIMTS’s cluster initiative,” according to Dasari.
