The BSIV LPO 1616 with 6.2m wheelbase has the latest gen 4cyl version of the Cummins ISBe with a 4.5L capacity. This is basically a 4cylinder version of the 6.7L ISBe used in the Prima Construck and the Tata Divo bus. It is also available with an Allison auto tranny or the Tata GBS750 gearbox. This is the only heavy BSIV bus chassis available as of now. It also has more uprated components like large clutch, stadard radial tyres etc.

As far as I know, the older 6BT engines made in India can only go upto BSIII. This is because to achieve BSIV compliance one has to include either SCR or EGR technology. The older 6BT engines were not designed to use these technologies. Thus the shift to the newer 3rd gen B series engines from Cummins to meet BSIV standards.

Even the fully built BSIV buses are no longer with the 235hp engines like the LPS4923 trucks, rather a 245hp version of the 6.7L ISBe engines.

Driver is not sleeping, rather looking down into the console!! The Pavit merc has changed their lights to volvo styled ones. Was this the Kesineni which was involved in the accident?

Re: Intercity Buses operated by various private travels and STUs

Though not an intercity bus, but still a different category of a Govt owned bus. Its a Cerita JC12 owned by the Health Dept of Orissa. As the name shows, its used to transport blood, from blood donation camps conducted throughout the state by Red Cross and others to the blood banks. The pic shows it standing infront of the Red-Cross office in Bhubaneswar. It has fully modified interiors for carrying few people and lots of blood. It has seperate AC units in the luggage bay to keep things cool inside for longer periods of time. You can spot the cooling slats on the side for the AC units.

The Orissa Govt continues to be the only operator of high power premium buses in the State and probably the whole of east India. They also operate a few Tata Hispanos, Volvo B9Rs and B7Rs.

Older 235hp Hispanos are no longer available. The newer ones are no longer called Hispanos, but Tata Divo.

LUXURY - LUXURIA Redefined

My first sighting of this Highway bird in the concrete jungle. The Driver had a tough time slotting this behemoth into a right turn.

Calicut is now becoming famous for A/c private route buses. Here in the pic is the new bus called Malabar Bhai executive which is an A/c bus plying between Vazhikadavu - Kozhikode. Now this one makes the count of total no of A/c private route buses in kerala to 4.

Have these a/c buses driven by a slave engine become so cheap to operate? How much do they return, 2-3 kmpl or maximum 3.2 given the style of these drivers. The MTC guys who are everyday asked to mug up and drive with only one motive - Mileage, manage only 3.2 -3.6 kmpl. But then how do these private guys manage? If so what is the difference in fares between these and the non a/c buses?

Re: Intercity Buses operated by various private travels and STUs

One more observation from my side. The AC Busses that run on mofussil routes cannot have sealed windows like the ones on the long-distance routes. Look at this one too, normal windows. It sure helps if someone does not like AC or wants to throw up, but plays havoc with the AC running costs
