Parag, I am looking for this type of connector (approx), female type, 4 pin. or even 2 pin. (See encircled part). Any idea where can I get one from ?

One option is to visit your ASC and bargain with the folks to lend you one :).

Other would be to enquire these manufacturers and ask them for a dealer who stocks these in Bangalore.

A.S.S is not an ass when it comes to something like this. :) . Much better than going to manufacturers / or even JC road

The A.S.S may not get you a connector from their inventory but will certainly pass one to you from their Bin.

But yes, calling the manufacturer helps a lot. Have dealt with Shell, NGK, CRC and Lumax India after simply calling them on their "Contact Us" number and checked for dealer and availability that they have been friendly even to ship few things to the nearest dealer if a part wasn't in stock.

JC Road makes best sense and I am more than sure you will get these easily after walking few shops.

Even one from their bin will work in this case.

Reg JC road, my experience has been otherwise.

Hence I mentioned a good walk on JC Road before you get lucky at all.

Actually, couple of good Radio/Electronics Shop on SP Road might also help.

I have a 2007 WagonR Lxi and in need to put an extra 12V power socket for back row so that my daughter watch movies from Samy Tab.
Is this possible, if yes, can you give me a detailed (sorry for this!) instruction on how to go about, as i'm blank on electricals.

I am trying to add the same on my Figo. But I wish to add 2 more 12V sockets.
Do I need to have 2 fuse taps or can I use one and split the wire from the output ?

I thought of using a 15A Fuse tap and connecting 2 Sockets, Would that work ?

The answer is Yes and the instructions to be followed would be same as the Ertiga.

WagonR also will have plenty of empty fuse slots and you will able to do this without much ado. Let me see if I get time and pass you more details on the same today.

It would certainly work but when it fails due to a blown fuse because of improper load, you will have both the sockets not working at all :).

You certainly won't want 2 sockets lying idle if that happens. Hence please order one more tap and make independent connection for both the sockets.

I would like to try this on my Nano, and need help in deciding which fuse tap should I be buying.

In Amazon there are two types of fuse tap cables.

In my current set-up, I am using Mini Fuse Taps for these 2 sockets although Ertiga uses Micro Fuses.

It means, whether you buy the Mini Fuse Tap or the Micro Fuse Tap, both will work without issues as the fuse socket is generous to allow a Mini fuse tap to be plugged in.

So that I don't confuse you, let me add this:

It wont matter whether you but a Micro or a Mini Tap - It will work in your Nano irrespective of whether Nano uses Micro or Mini Fuses.

Thanks! This one looks good too, but it doesn't comes with connector wires like the one from amazon does. I am pretty new at this electrical things, so I don't have any tools for crimping, etc.

Talking about tools, I realized that I'll need a 'tester' to check which fuse to tap from the car. Would a regular tester that we use at home do, or do I need to buy one. I found this one that comes with spare fuses (again fuses is something that I don't have right now).

Once again, thanks for patiently answering all my questions that are coming in installments.

You really won't need any such tester for this.

Have your wiring ready: Positive connected to the Fuse tap and Negative connected to a Ground.

Then you can use any of the empty fuse sockets on the fuse box of the Nano and plug the fuse Tap and with a device/load plugged into the new 12V socket, test the functionality.

Essentially, the only thing that you really need to test is when exactly is the system powering up the socket based on the position of the ignition key.

• Few empty sockets will be always on irrespective of the Key position & without the Key inserted
• Few sockets will power up with Key in ACC Position
• Few sockets will power up when the Key is in Ignition position

Based on your choice you can finally opt for the socket that matches your requirement. Best is to opt for a socket that turn on only when key is in ACC position.

So you really don't need a tester there.

Fuses:
The link you mentioned are not the one that Nano will have for sure. Nano should have either Micro or Mini type fuses. Check the fuse box, pull out one of the fuses and see what is the fuse type the Nano uses.



That is the excerpt from the owners manual of Tata Nano. It mentions that the Nano uses "Blade" (Mini) fuses. Hence, if you are looking to buy spare fuses, please order these:

And sorry, I am a bit confused now, so few more questions -

I was thinking that the fuse tap wire is the one that will go into the Nano's fuse box. And from your previous comment I understood that the fuse adapter will allow either Mini or Micro fuse. And hence I can buy any fuse tap, either mini or micro.

The fuse will actually go into the fuse tap wire, and not the Nano's fuse box. So I'll need to buy fuses that fit into the fuse tap wire. Now is there a norm that says micro fuse tap will take micro fuse, and mini fuse tap will take a mini fuse?

Which is correct. A fuse tap will have 2 ends. One end will go directly into an empty fuse socket of your Nano's fuse box. The other end will be a loose end that you need to extend with an additional wire to be able to pull it till your 12V socket's positive terminal. This takes care of the 12V connection.

Now to complete the circuit, you will need to connect the Negative/Ground of the 12V socket to car's body and for that you need to pull another wire from the 12V socket and attach it to ground. (See that pic of Ring Terminal on my DIY)
Try to get Mini. Your Nano uses Mini (Blade) tyou fuse.

You don't have to but fuses. The Fuse Tap itself will come with 2 fuses. One for the load and another for the internal circuit.
